August 1, where's the 40D (if it's called that). So much for your inside source.

And the most useless thing in this thread is *your* comment. No one made you read it.

Personally, I enjoy talking about rumors, future possible features, etc. because it gets me thinking about what I need/want in a camera, and what kinds of things other people like and use in their current ones. Harping on the August 1 date is a waste of time, but the discussion is/was interesting.

This thread is really degenerating fast... If you believe it started out as being of little value, it's clearly not gotten into something that has less then no value...

Thanks trenchmonkey for your contributions.

Below is Fred's philosophy for his website. I'd suggest you all read it and especially note the words "high quality".

"Since its launch, fredmiranda.com's philosophy has been very straight forward. This site strives to provide high quality articles, reviews and forum resources to the digital photography community."

I'd strongly suggest when in Fred"s House we conduct ourselves according to his philosophy if we want this great asset to continue. There are other forums out there for those who prefer not to do so.

This thread has the second highest number of hits in the last 10 days indicating a strong level of interest in the topic. No doubt many people find it uninteresting yet I can't comprehend why they bother to read it and then further to add nothing but complaints about the topic. I tend to spend time only on threads where the topics interest me and pass others by.

As for me, I am finding the entries helpful in thinking about what to look for in my first dSLR. I thought this kind of community could support that sort of conversation.

PS I also did not read the "high quality" phrase as a modifier to forum contributions ...but then I'm just a noobie so I'm open to be correction.

Steve

Oh please get off your high horse, thank you.

You appear to think that speculation topics are of low quality. That's fine, then just shy away from those topics.

The truth is that, if you are capable of doing your own "filtering", then those speculation topics can provide quite a lot of insightful information: Input from a purely technical point of view, input from user experience, sensible user wishes, and economics. Sure, it's also filled with wild and baseless speculation and pure wishful thinking.

Again, if you don't want to read speculation, then just stay away from speculation topics. No one is forcing you to read them after all. But don't force your low opinion of speculation topics on everyone else.

(But, I'll admit freely that, as speculation topics go, this particular 40D topic isn't an outstanding one. The main reason for this is that the 40D has been on the Speculation Radar for more than half a year already. Most educated guesswork has been done already.)

Seth, you should go to the doctor. There's no flu in July in North America. The flu is pandemic and won't get this far for a few more months. I say this because my brother thought the same thing one July, turned out to be an infection that landed him in the hospital. Sorry, but your comment drew my attention because of my brother's experience. Hope you feel better and good luck.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but does anyone know if Canon is planning on coming out with a lens to compete with the Sigma 50-150 and Tokina 50-135?

If so, what do you think the likelihood of it having IS and being right around the $1,000 mark? It would almost have to be, otherwise for a couple hundred more you could have the 200mm length and an L lens (of course also a lot more weight and bulk, though).

If they do come out with this lens, I hope it has internal zoom like the other two. I would also like to see it have a 77mm filter thread to match the 10-22 and 17-55.

Any thoughts?

Tentacle --
I think you're reading my post incorrectly. I'm not referring to the topic of threads such as this. They can be a lot of fun and after separating the wheat from the chaff, some very interesting information remains. I'm referring to posts which have nothing to do with the topic, add nothing to the thread, are occasionally detrimental and only relieve someone's boredom or add to their post count. ie...If you're going to post, have it add something useful to the thread.

No one knows what lenses Canon is going to release until they release the press info themselves.

It wouldn't surprise me if this were a niche that canon would decide to let other manufacturers fill. Again, it's just a guess.

If image quality was up to the 70-200 f/4 IS ... I'd buy one.

This thread could go away now. The starter of this thread was clearly incorrect. July has come and gone and no successor.

Lets wait a week or two and start a new one when it gets close. K?

I think you guys are pretty funny criticizing eos-m42guy after Jeff (the moderator) gave him a big smile. I don't see big smiles next to your comments.
