Quite agree. The 10D was (is) one of the best sensors ever made. With the 20D I think Canon were really trying to make the 30D but got it slightly wrong. Still a good camera mind you, but just not quite there.
Could someone enlighten me as to why the 10D produces a better photo and why the sensor in the 10D is one of the best ever made? Maybe I shouldn't sell my 300D
As promised, here is the next silly post for those of you who have nothing better to do with your time.
I work for Canon USA and I know for a fact that all R&D is kept highly confidential. When I hear someone write about a buddy in retail who knows... I just have to laugh. I hate to break it to everyone, but retailers find out about our new cameras at the same time as everyone else - even B&H. That is also why cameras are announced well before they are available for purchase.
I hate to break it to everyone, but nobody, not even my fellow co-workers here know when Canon will release a new model.

Somebody knows! How about people in manufacturing that are producing a new body They know, don't they
I do appreciate what you're saying as I used to be involved somewhat with manufacturing in a large company. Secrecy was the word and a condition of employment.
I wonder often on how many people really believe the camera shop guy but you have to admit that occasionally they do hear something but that's wrong probably 99% of the time too.
It is wonderful fun though to speculate and I enjoy this thread immensely! It will be sad, in a way, after announcement, when we won't have anything to talk about! But, even then, there will be cries of "why wasn't my favorite feature put in the camera?"

Oh don't worry there will be plenty more to talk about once the new model is announced, Like how disappointing/exiting the features are, How everyone has got on a waiting list, and which retailer has them in stock. That will go on for a few months, long enough for the next rumour season to begin!

Sheesh, some folks simply don't understand the concept of harmless bickering.
Seriously, if it really is a waste of critical forum resources, then say so and set rules accordingly.
Exactly my feelings ... but what would happen if they did that is that the forum would no longer be fun and many/most would go elsewhere. Strictly educational is boring.
That said ...
Perhaps the 20D's biggest improvement over over the 10D was it's greatly improved startup time. Try bird photography with a 10D ... you quickly become frustrated.
I want my 40D and I want it NOW!
The MkIII is just too much $$$ for a hobbiest
The 5D is full frame - not something I want or need
Now if someone wants to donate a MkIII to me I'll gladly shut up about the 40D

somone in your building knows... some consultants & testers know... people doing the users guide, website, etc. it's obviously confidential from employees such as yourself and small dealers since they're doing the ordering. you better believe the top purchasing manager of B&H knows generally what to expect the entire year 2007 from canon, nikon, etc.
in short, the people who know have the most to lose if they talk.
