The Rim Fire in Yosemite National Park and the Cocos Fire in San Diego from 2013, and 2014, respectively.

Nikon D800e with the 85mm 1.4 AF-D and the 24mm 1.4 AF-S.

The Cocos Fire photo was published in Time Magazine in the 1st June 2014 issue.

I used to have that lens, quite nice actually.
But then couldn't stand manual focusing.

I was very happy with it on the D40 - had the DK-21M magnifying eyepiece which helped a lot with manual focusing.
It was pretty good on the D700 as well, but too small on this large camera, so after waiting a while for Nikon to come up with a smaller FX body on which it would work better, I sold it last year.
I too was growing tired with MF - I'm full AFS now
