Sometimes it takes ruffled feathers, to see the down. TM Thanks, Jason.
FWIW, I'm twice the photographer since beginning my tenure here. I owe at least
half that to FM and the rest to practice and my work ethic. My participation speaks
for itself, sad some would rather whine than learn. FM's an incredible resource, not
a popularity contest. I sleep very well most nights. Shoulda been a writer?!

Hello, I have been posting on the Nikon Manual focus lenses thread, but I consider this as one of my best, taken with an AF-Nikkor:

Last looks a tad front focused AND noisy...just sayin' (this IS your BEST thread, remember)
Personally, I'd master the D7K....before venturing into D7100 land. It's your money.

Well, I prefer to focus in the head and flowers, not the tail of the Bananaquit

Agreed, last image was noisy, but:
1) this is a 75% crop, and
2) I like some noise, not an artificially overcleaned image, just personal taste.

You are right to the point, if I decide any moment to buy one D7100, the money is mine
About mastering, well, I think most of us are continuously mastering our cameras every day, but perhaps you are an exception. Congrats to you and thanks for the input.

Wow - over 2 months sine I've posted in here. I think I was growing tired of scrolling through posts which absorb whole pages at a time!

Here's 3 from a recent photowalk in the Deira area of Dubai, c&c more than welcome as usual:

I know we have never had the best of relationships Americo, but this is so much better than your dolly things. This is a much better picture, really worth sharing

I guess you just have to get out more of the house and share those

My dolly photo's are what I consider my better work, as I enjoy the still life scene much more. no offense to anyone, but like every photo, this type I posted of my family are in the gazillions, and i have little doubt that i will that the next best people shot, nor do I really care, since that whole old mans rugged battled ethnic face, or downtrodden lady in India hawking fruits, or the malnourished child hanging on to precious life, is not my forte, what forte is mine really?? I do what I LIKE, and that's about all, if you feel I should get out of my home more in order to appease the masses, maybe you should consider a different hobby altogether? I'm good, however, like the multitude of people with very honed opinions will promptly point out, ahh, what the hell, I suck, i suck, why should anyone care?
I won't stop, nor will it detract me from doing what I enjoy. I must point out, whether you felt that you had good intentions by saying so, you should listen to the tone in your writing, you have an uncanny way expressing them. Good day. You may block me, if you please, or you can be pissed, and attack, makes no matter to me, as I enjoy it all. Thanks and good day, honestly! Happy photography! -Americo

In my humble, amatuer opinion...I think what you need to work on is framing and composition. Some of the framing leaves me scratching my head, not sure what to look at. You don't want added drama to increase confusion.

this was an example photo btw, not an actual photo to post show and tell wise, however, i like it. the story, well, books, doll, scary, or something in that nature. i should have photoshopped in gore, or blood??

Thanks leighton.

The colour version had a very subtle and light enhancement with Tonal Contrast in Color Efex for the subject. Then in Silver Efex there was an initial conversion to black and white with a Neutral layer, where the contrast and fine structure was subtly increased. Then finally there was a second very subtle layer using High Structure (harsh) which was toned down to match the background and brushed in for the subject.

Thanks Phil, I suspected SEP was at play to some extent. The tonal range exhibited in the man's pants and in the man's arm in the last image is what really clued me in that something other than LR or PS was used. I bet the High Structure layer had something to do with that?
I try to get by the best I can in LR, but I believe it's time to buy NIK's plugin. Thanks again, these are just fabulous.

I tend to go 'slowly slowly, catchy monkey' with SEP layers - very easy to overcook and get an HDR look. Get it right and as you say the tones (especially in B&W) come out nicely. A lot of clothing in this region is loose fitting, so it helps with environmental portraits.

That is not what I meant at all. I like still-life images as well. What I was talking about is in one of the images, you could see a flip-flop in the background. Also, there have been a few where a shallower DOF with tight focus on a single part of the image would have potentially achieved a more interesting photo. With everything in focus and centered in the frame, I don't know what I am supposed to look at.

This is your hobby, do with it as you will. If you are happy with the image, that is all that really matters. I would caution you though, if you ask for critique, don't become upset with what people say and take it with a grain of salt. I come hear to learn from my peers and improve my photography. I try and listen to everything that is said and take suggestions to heart; or at the very least give it a shot. YMMV...

There's something exciting about wading thru waist deep of water with 15K worth of equipment sitting just inches above water just to get a shot.... it's all worth it in the end (I guess)

Just what are you sayin? The first two are excellent irrespective of the fact that MF kit was used and the noise is negligible.

The photog does know what he's doing and it's plain to see. To suggest that he should "master the D7000 before venturing into D7100 land is an insult and uncalled for...just sayin.
