^everything you post makes me want a D3x but all I really need is more time to shoot not better gear :-) . Great shot just not crazy about the catchlights - what's the lightsource?
I always wonder if the images with the D3x and/or the Zeiss glass really do have an extra something special that's even apparent on web-sized images, or if it's just that the skill of the photographers who use that equipment is simply shining through
The catchlights are from the six SB-R200's attached to the lens.
It was a simple 7 light setup, 6 on the lens and 1 SB-900 high above to light his hat
I don't think the camera has that much to to with good images in general.
But people who use the higher end gear usually/hopefully use their gear more and therefore
are able to perform better. This is surely just speculation from my side..

I bought and use it mostly for portraits yes, when I use it for macro I usually have 3 on the lens.
When I'm hired to do a portrait shoot, I usually bring this setup to get another shot like this in my collection. I've got quite a few now, and have posted some in this thread earlier.
As far as focal lengths go, I prefer a 50mm on full frame, with longer lenses like the 85, the light gets too flat. I have shot some with my 35mm G 1.8 on fx and it works pretty well.
One thing I usually don't shoot with this setup is women, as it's too harsh and shows imperfections too well, something I really like when doing headshots of men.

These are the Chocolate Hills in Bohol - The Philippines. All natural, coral pile remants from many years ago.... They turn brown in the summer which is really neat.
