It's been a long time since I posted to this thread. Sorry to those of you that may have seen this already. It was shot earlier this week.

Yeah that was my initial gut reaction too... If you use NX have you tried using the "set custom greyscale" function and select a section of the grey rock in setting WB to see what it gives you? Is this from a RAW file?

Regardless, nice shot.

And that second jet shot, no matter how many times I see it... is phenominal.

Forgot the first part of your post. I shot jpg as there was plexiglass between me and the lion. I wasn't expecting it to turn out as well as it did. Funny how I almost never get the photo I am hunting for but end up with something that really made the day worth it. I wanted to get a good bear shot but all of them came out ho-hum. But the lioness made my day.

Sorry about the double posting. I didn't realize I had posted it before. That is one of my all time favorites.

Greg

First please don't be sorry... it wasn't a "double post". That's when you post the same thread in a few forums or the same reply twice in a row in one thread - to my knowledge. This was a nice revisit of a jet shot that makes you just have to go "WOW". Amazing shot really... so post as often as you wish!

Nik,
That is amazing
I am guessing but is that plant one of those tiny insect eaters that live in particularly poor soil and supplement their nutrition by catching insects??
What lens?? 16-85 reversed

Hey Tim, Actully it's all rather simply. I took this at some un-godly hour in the morning. It was just really foggy, saw this little dandelion type flower on the ground. That's Set the camera to vivid, cloudy white balance and used 90mm tamron. Used an SB800 remotely off to the left side and reduced to -2ev.

Shot a little bit further away at f22 to get some depth of field, 1/10sec and ISO 320. Cropped about 40%. Still can get a good 12x8" out of it. Looks great blowup actually.

Geez those Tamron 90mm perform well!

I have a 105VR and it doesn't do anything better that I can see.

Well done.

Thanks, there's really no bad macro's. I shoot a fair amount of spur of the moment stuff, so having VR and being able to squeeze an extra couple of stops can sometimes make all the difference.
