Note that the LB Color combo also has about 1/2 stop less light loss. It is a very addictive filter, it tend to have to force myself not to over use it

this was just a quick test but i'm very impressed with the results. exposure was 16mm at 1/60th, f/16, and ISO 200 on the 1Ds2. crops are all at 100% and absolutely no post-processing has been done. raw conversion was done in PS3 ACR.
i still prefer primes but am having a difficult time finding fault in this lens. luckily i got a good copy on the first try.

i still don't know yet. the 16-35 is performing so well that i'm having a hard time convincing myself to return it. i'm not a landscape shooter so at this point it all comes down to how much i'll use it. i have a really good copy of the EF 20/2.8 and have to weigh the zoom against the prime and the $1200 difference.
if i keep this lens and (eventually) find a good copy of the 50L then i'm done buying glass. that's a scary thought.

I want the last hour of my life back.
It was wasted slogging through the first 78 pages of this thread, 76 of which were not about the 16-35f2.8USM-II at all.
I received my new MkII on Wednesday, and find it to be an outstanding match for my 5D.
Unfortunately, my Cokin P series filters are too narrow, and the holder is visible in the corners at 16~20mm or so.
Looks like I have to upgrade to Z Pro's now.

no problem, ross. this lens is out-resolving the 1Ds2 in the center and coming close at the edges. i believe that canon designed this lens with a larger image circle (like a TS-E lens) so that by the time it gets "cropped" by a 36x24mm sensor, the edges are still sharp. at least, that's my theory anyway.

if anyone else is interested in getting 82mm singh-ray filters for this lens, i recommend calling them so that can get a sense of the demand for their filters in the 82mm size. It would really suck if they don't have anything available for the summer when i'm plannig on spending as much time as possible in banff/jasper, or even worse if i have to goto the tetons without their color combo polarizer in the fall.

I already expressed interest.... I have a Vari-ND I use for waterfalls and they only make a 77mm filter. Tried to convince them that 82mm would help even 77mm lenses on full frame. The slim Vari-ND is still pretty thick and can vignette.

Here's a few test shots I rattled off today. All were at ISO400 and f/11, though. I was taking these pictures for other purposes than just lens testing.
It was cold and cloudy when I got to the park, but just as I got there, the sun came out. But by the end of the shoot (a few hours), it had gone back to cloudy.
All were taken with the 5D. These are 100% full-frame . . not cropped at all, and not rotated. I adjusted exposure on some of them, and changed white balance, etc.
Sorry, they're only 600x900, so you can't really tell ALL that much from them.

Sorry, meant to say that the images are full-frame . . . they've been resized down to 600x900. 100% was meant to show that I hadn't cropped the images at all before resizing them down.
1Ds MK II users are never done buying glass.
