I ordered mine from Pro Photo Supply (Portland, Oregon) for $1,511. They have been early recepients of several of Canon's new lens releases over the past few years. They were the first sell the 24-105, and the 70-200/4IS, so hopefully they'll be quick on this one too.

Going FF certainly has its price ..... suddenly, the w/a lenses that served you pretty well with your cropped-factor body are no longer quite as good anymore ..... as your images are now vignetting at the corners and soft at the edges.
Pleased to see that Canon is serious about keeping their FF users happy (finally and about time too!) and giving us some "decent" wide-angle lenses to play with!

No way! Now they are actually wide angle and are infinitely better. My 17-40 on my 20D went from boring to spectacular on my 5D. Now with that said, I really look forward to this lens for even more edge detail and speed over my 17-40.

I think you are missing the point. I have always had the 17-40L, and I went from a 10D to a 20D to 5D. It served me pretty well, and still does ..... and yes, a 17mm lens IS 17mm on my 5D ..... but the fact is, on my 5D, the edges are a little soft and it vignettes in the corners - problems that you don't have with a cropped camera.
Likewise, the 16-35L - the edges are soft and it vignettes. If you are telling me that you don't have that problem on your FF body you have one helluva 16-35L and you don't need to look at the Mk II. And I don't believe that that's the case. With the new 16-35L II, it's like having your cake and eating it too - you get a TRUE 16mm PLUS relatively DECENT sharpness and no vignetting at the corners.

Anyone has any news about when this lens is expected to reach the dealers? I've heard that it won't happen until May! Maybe this is why it's not even listed on the B&H web site.

Well, look at how long the 50 1.2L took to reach dealers after its announcement. Wasn't that lens announced in July 06 and finally reached customers in early December (or was it November?) Either way...

Ref the 14 F2.8: I have most of the Canon Wide L's but didn't buy the ($1700!) 14mm and instead use my 15 FE ($800) with Hemi ($300) or Dxo ($320) software for various "Projections" to include the range from FE thru 14/16mm. So I have more "looks" and Cheaper Too.
\It seems, with advanced software now, that the lens makers can make a FE (circles for circles) better and the software people can make the linearization better than grinding glass.
There is a marked difference between the old and new 16--35L, especially at the edges. this is good news for FF shooters. For cropped-frame bodies, the difference is negligible - especially when compared to the 17-40L which appears to be quite an outstanding lens.

I don't think they'd put the DO technology into that lens size, nor do I think it would carry the L designation (my 400DO doesn't, and it meets all criteria to be called L).

Well, I meant a new lens for that technology, despite the L or DO designations.
They surely will upgrade the PRO-lenses in the future as they already upgraded the 75-300mm DO, so why won't Canon upgrade their 70-200mm series into a faster, lighter, shorter, better, a 4 steps Stabilizer super-pro lens?

DO lenses still don't have the bokeh of regular lenses. canon might offer it as an alternative but not a replacement.
i haven't heard any working pros complain about the weight of their most popular lenses; 16-35L, 24-70L, 70-200/2.8L IS, 300/2.8L IS, and 400/2.8L IS. keep in mind that there are already f/4 alternatives for every one of those lenses if weight is an issue.

Mate, it's not a matter of pros complaining about the L series: I'm only talking about upgranding (improvement) gear as ALL companies ALWAYS have done (so far). Sigma released the 'monster' 200-500mm f/2.8 tele-zoom having already put tha 120-300mm f/2.8
I still believe Canon will put on the market (ahead of Nikon, as usual) a 70-200mm f/2.8 DO pro-zoom...
