FYI I received the educational price on the MKIII from our Canon rep yesterday via e-mail, sent out the purchase order today and was told to expect shipment next month.

I have one on order at Amazon also, just in case I'm too far back in line at Robert's Imaging.

I did not even know that something like that exists. Could you possibly say how much it is?

Yes there is an educational price but it must be bought by the school with an official purchase order. No other form of payment will be accepted.I'm buying one for our school.

Let's stick to the facts and maybe we can figure this out. I just got off the phone with Adorama. I'm number 4 on the list of 100 pre-orders. "Late April early May" was in the order record as a ship date from the store.
While on the phone, he checked and said the Canon site said June 20. He stated that this was probably because the pre-orders were all spoken for. Sounds logical that B&H and Adorama would be top distributors here in the States, and may be ready to ship a few units in this timeframe.
I'm predicting nothing here, just providing the news as I did in an earlier post. Why don't I just promise to post here as soon as it arives and we can be done with it, because I will most certainly be one of the earliest jerks to get one.

It took me a -*MONTH*- to read through this thread to the 152nd page. Yeah, I don't have that much time to read it every day all day long.

Here is an interesting (to me) bit of information I put together earlier this year for a friend at work. Some of the information in the list isn't all that relevant to here (I was basically pointing out some information that made each camera body unique), but I left it in anyway.

Here is a rough Canon camera body timeline I put together based on dpreview.com:

Kindof puts some things in perspective, to me at least.

I intend to buy one. I doubt I will be the first to get one, but I -*WILL*- have one.

Those aren't dates the cameras became available - I think they are announcement dates?

I am sure that the 1D2 initial shipments were mid-April 2004, I got mine the end of April...

Yes, they are only announcement dates. There should be another field for the release dates.

BTW Verxion, the 1Ds had a 10 frame RAW buffer, same as the 1Ds MK II. The 1Ds MK II is usually fast enough to write one frame while the buffer fills, so 11 consecutive shots are possible. The silly specs are for jpegs.

One has more pixels, one has 2M less, but higher quality pixels (14b)?
Any predictions on the relative IQ between these two cameras?

I stopped by the Calumet Philadelphia store on tuesday the 17th to check on the status of my MK IIII order. A Canon Rep happenned to be there and told me mid May Canon will be shipping. I talked to him for about 30 minutes. I was also wondering when the accessories would be available flash, batteries, new cord for battery pack etc. While speaking to the Canon Rep the store mananger said that he received notice Canon was excepting dealer orders.

Don't kill the messenger I just wanted you folks in my corner of the globe to know what I experienced.

Sorry guys, I should have clarified, the camera data I posted was ANNOUNCEMENT dates as well as ANNOUNCED price.

I realize that the prices of things changed - that is my POINT here.

As for the frame depth, fps, and such, I took the data from dpreview for the most part, as they had it listed. I will make corrections in my local copy.

Verxion: I will make corrections in my local copy.

First of all thank you for posting your list. It brings an important perspective to features and price issue.
You may also want to correct the number of Mpixels for 400D and 1D mkIII.

So what is the good price? the one of the announcement? or the one we can see now on bh or adorama?
what was the real price in the past( for other canon cameras), was it the price when Canon did an announcement or the price in stores?

jean-yves
ps: i just can't wait to its release :-)
