After 3-6 months was the street price of the mkII or mkII N much different from its initial SRP?

I'd like to get a mkII N (new or refurb) and was wondering how long after the mkIII became available would it take to effect the new mkII street price and availability of refurbs.

Or is the mkIII's $4500 price high enough to protect mkII pricing?

Would mkII refurbs start showing up about 2 months after mkIII availability?

I was rather amazed at the price she gave me also. I asked her to double-check her computer and she said that this is the suggest retail price.

I also called my local dealer and he checked his online connection to Canon and found that the part number had changed on the camera. He said this was a good indication that the firmware has already been changed. He said that whenever a new version of the firmware is released, they change the part number in their computer system.

He has a call into his rep to get the details. When I hear from him, I'll report back with any information I can provide.

Funny. I just got off the phone w/ the nice people of Keeble and Shuchat and was told mid-May.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a mid April. But I'm a little surprised that people posting here said that K&S told them mid-April.

Who knows; perhaps they have an inside man.

When I called K&S at the point of my post you mention above that's what they told me (scout's honor), however I was in the store last week and the counter guy said sometime in May and no set price yet so one way or another I didn't get the right info at least one of the time.

I'm fairly early on the Hunt's list with paid deposit but have not heard anything from them yet as some have here.

I wish Canon would get their sh@t together, they are starting to remind me of Apple! I guess when everyone loves your products you can get away with it!

for those out there planning on buying or waiting to receive a 1d-markIII..when do we expect to see updates to the adobe camera raw program for adobe elements so we will be able to shoot and process raw?...otherwise there will be a lot of jpeg images showing up on here as soon as the camera is released!

An even bigger question: will there be an update for Photoshop CS2, or just for CS3? And what about Lightroom and Photoshop Elements?

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

"Note: Adobe is often able to provide preliminary support for raw files from new camera models not listed above. Camera Raw and Lightroom will open and edit these files but profiling and testing is not complete."

I don't think anyone here really knows the answer...best bet is to talk to Adobe.

Completely agree. I am quite upset with the situation.

I think Adobe will give CS2 users the ability to process 1D3 files, but I wouldn't count on much beyond that. Since the interface (controls) are different in the CS3 ACR version, the time will come when they just stop updating the older format.

Of course I'm just guessing here, but if I'm not mistaken you can't get the same conversion profiles on CS (and definitely not v7,0).

1D MII is enough of an animal for me!!!! And I still have not reached its full potential. Have you (honestly) reached the full potential of your camera?

Hey Rob.... I use Piepuls too. They say I'm third in line. I live in Delaware and deliver to the post office 2 or 3 times a week

Full potential is relative. I reach about 90% of my needs in the first week and 99% in the first moth. I don't know how to get decent jpegs from the bodies nor use some of the personal functions, but I would never have any reason to do so in a hundred years.

HS sports require everything these cameras can dish out and more. I frequently shoot in conditions that are just over the edge of the 1D Mark II's comfort zone in terms of AF & high ISO noise performance, and occasionally way over. I'm hopeful that the Mark III's zone will extend well past that edge.

I think most amateurs don't realize the disadvantage they are at in shooting circumstances, generally, compared to the pros. In regard to HS sports, the venues are poorly lit and cramped, and that goes double for the indoor sports.....

A tenth of a second is an eternity when trying to capture gymnastics skills in the most beautiful position. For me the 10 exposure/sec rate is reason enough to get the Mark III when it comes out. The Mark II, however, meets most of my needs for action/event photography and will stay in my camera bag.

Same with wakeboarding, which I think of as gymnastics on the water. Miss the grab and the shot is toast.

I'm really ready for another 1 series body, loved the 1D but 4mp is just not enough anymore.

I like 10mp files, seems like a sweet spot - not too big - not too small. Same with 1.3X sensor, best of both worlds.

Love the 1 series body except for weight but this one is somewhat lighter.

Like the new button layout / multi controller / menu system.

Once the camera is out there and FM members start posting images I have a funny feeling the results will be spectacular. I remeber the test images from the 1D2 were nothing compared to what I saw once the camera got out there.

Just wonder if the 1D3 will be as easy on lenses as the original 1D, it made just about every lens I had look good.

Cmon Canon ship those pups already!

In the meantime the 5D is my sports camera.

Absolutely! But then again, I'm only using a 20D.

I'm looking forward to upgrading it to something better; but I'm in no hurry. I just printed some shots from the AMA SuperCross held in SF in Jan and they came out exceptionally well. Though it's slow, clunky, and I did miss a couple of exceptional shots; it still provided me with a great number of keepers.

If my 400D was in my 20D body I would be done for a while. So I wait for my first pro body. Looking so forward to it. Imagine the shots to choose from on your watersport shots with 10fps Rich. Very nice shot by the way.
