Wow. They do an impressive job making you want to upgrade. From that it looks like the IIN is a piece of junk. And when I stop and think about it; it's a pretty exceptional camera (way way better than what I'm using right now).
Waiting firstly for the anouncment of the 1DmkIIn replacement and now for the 1DmkIII to be released, reminds me of the South Park episode where Cartman is waiting for the Nintendo Wii.
Come to think about it, I am also waiting for the Wii I ordered in December. Very annoying as I walked into a store in Australia and bought one for my nieces last month.
I hope I don't suffer the same post release wait on the 1D
From the samples over at IR, i would say the contrary, they can keep it. What i am really interested in is the New AF System, that is it, the rest is all smoke and mirrors. Although i really like the larger raw buffer as well. How ever $3,999.00 it was questionable, but at $4,495.00 it's a def no show no go here. Just my opinion how i feel and nothing more.

well stephen, you could try to freeze yourself, but we all saw how that worked out for cartman (well probably not everybody here). it sounds like some people are so mad at canon about the price situation/confusion on the mk3 that they could "crush them on their tummies and eat their entrails"
personally im on edge waiting for for the 1Ds mk3 to be anounced, THEN my waiting will start, assuming i can make this all happen financially. if i can, then i might see how much i can get for my 1Ds mk2 and get a 1D mk3 as a second body...seems like that would just about cover it all :-)
i was just playing around the other day with some macro stuff and was thinking about how incredibly awesome it would be to have the live view feature. i was fortunate enough to see it in person and i think its really neat...and helpful.
Remember Live View is not Auto Focus. Your thinking about selling your 1ds MKII, and here i just bought a brand new one with the money i was saving for the 1d MKIII since i am not impressed with it all, i figured i would just get the 1ds MKII instead. Different strokes for different folks.

no kidding. yeah ive seen the live view, hands on and really liked it, even if it was only for manual. of course, for any macro work on a tripod, that wont be a big deal.
my thinking is that IF i can swing a 1Ds Mk3, whenever it comes out, i would probably only use my Mk2 in emergencies, so in many sense, it would just be sittng there, gathering dust. now, if i could turn my currents 1Ds Mk2 into a 1D Mk3, that would be a slightly different tool, to possibly help make me some money for sports/action stuff, where its speed is more handy.
of course, IF canon were to make some kind of high speed crop function, that would solve the speed dilema and id probably keep my current camera as an excellent backup...but, honestly im not holding my breath for a high speed crop, in the 1Ds replacement.
I have not posted many messages here so my credability is not as high as others on this forum. All I can do is tell you what happened today.
About an hour and a half ago, I received an e-mail from Adorama requesting that I call to confirm that I wanted a 1D MK3, and to provide a card number. Upon calling, I was told that the camera would ship in about two weeks. I'm trying to get back to them to confirm whether this means shipping from Japan or shipping to me. These guys are extremely straight shooters and have always served me well. The price is $4,499.95.
No drama, just the facts of my conversation.

if this is true that sounds great!!! I'm number 3 on the wait list at vistek in town and was told that the camera should be in at the end of april. I am kind of surprised that Adorama is getting it so soon, as B&H and adorama have tended to be a little slow for new releases.
Since I called within hours of the original announcement, I must have been close to the top of the phone list. the gentleman told me that canon contacted them with the announcement this morning.
I'm sure we will have further confirmation shortly today. I have enjoyed watching this board for all of the info this year and I'm just happy to be able to provide what I hope to be helpful information.

Could be a nice function when I am taking photos of flying birds with my Canon 400mm 5.6.
I have the Camera in TV-mode: 1/2000s, aperture 5.6, ISO 400.
When there will be more light the aperature will change to 6.3 7.1 8.0 or more, and that gives increased DOF, better chance to sharp bird.
If the light drops, like a sparrowhawk flying low over the ground, the shuttertime will still be 1/2000s, and aperture 5.6 but ISO might go up to 500 ISO or so with this ISO Speed Safety Shift (C. Fn) to achieve correct exposure.

Yep, I've always lusted after a 1D but never enough to purchase one - I always said it would be perfect if it had cross type sensors located at the outer reaches of the autofocus sensors. Now that it does I'll buy the first one I can find available.
