In regards to the live view mode, I was reading a sort of hands on thing from someone at one of the shows, and in it the author mentioned asking the Canon rep. about the duration the live view could be used. He said the Canon rep stated they recommended 15 minutes maximum. I'd imagine ambient temperature must have some influence, as well as other environmental factors (i.e. sunlight/studio lights, wind, etc.)

I don't think the "update" really means anything.

I just called Calumet and was told by the sales rep that at this point, they have no idea when the camera will be released.

When I talked to my local shop today, they also stated their Canon rep had no idea what pricing/ship date was going to be. They did say the 580 EXII was supposed to be available with the camera (same time, not packaged with the camera.)

I heard that Canon hasn't given any info yet on pricing, and they are saying May delivery at this time.

The way I read the white paper, you can select ALL of the 45 points but you can not select each of the 45 points. What this means is the "AF points can be automatically selected by the camera from among the 45 points." P19 of the Canon White Paper

If you want to manually select a particular point you are limited to 19, but I don't think that 19 is really all that limiting to many people.

To me, that means that the CAMERA can choose any of the 45 points. But YOU can only choose 19 of them.

And no, 19 isn't that limiting. In fact, it's more points than I'm currently allowed to choose, with the way I have my camera set up.

That's what I take it to mean as well. To be pedantic, you select the 45 point option and then the camera selects which of the 45 points to use.

The camera will be officially launched on Monday and pricing will be announced by then. It should be available in Asia by mid April.

I wonder if it'll function similar to the 5D, where the camera can choose 15 AF points, but the user may select among only 9.

well with the previous 1D's you can have it be 45, 21, 11, or 1 iirc. i might be misremembering, but the basic idea is that yes you can change how many AF points you're choosing from.

Warehouse Express in the UK have it listed for £2999, which equates to $5825 and €4375. I hope for the sake of you guys in the States that it doesn't retail near that there. However, when pricing cameras a direct conversion is rarely accurate as the States is quite a lot cheaper for camera gear than Europe.

Yeah, but the problem is that the price is not yet established, may be $4K or more, $4500. If is going to be $4500 -->> 3.500€ aprox.. For that price I am not going to NYC, I shall buy in EU and get an EU warranty too.

On line retailers in Swiss are giving a cheaper price (around 3.200€, near to the $4K)

Just called Calumet about my pre-order. My order is #17 and set to ship within 3-4 days. I was told the posted price of 4495.00 is the set price for Calumet. The first band of sales will include only one body for those who ordered multiple units - FYI. So the price and date info at Calumet at least seems to be accurate.

I just got off the phone with them too and they are showing two dates right now. The latest one is May. The sales guy didn't know if that was for all new sales or for all sales period.

calumet seems to be the only ones stating a ship date.   everyone else i've talked to either says they don't know or that it will be sometime in may.
