Has anyone here actually used the camera? How does the sound compare to the horrifically loud 1vHS at 10FPS? Thanks.

Yes, I've tried one, briefly, on a show stand. The normal shutter sound did not strike me as much different than my 1D and 5D. And the 60 decibel "silent mode" is really quite quiet.

No, no, it wasn't offensive, I just don't want you to be right!

I want to pay $3999 for this camera, as it was initially advertised by Canon, in the White Paper.

I would like that as well. However, all other improvements aside, I and many of my friends would be willing to pay hundreds of dollars more for the single improvment of being able to adjust focus (front/back) for each lens based upon its focal length. Some of us would save the difference in Fed/X alone, not even including what Canon charges for this calibration. Unless I've missed something I can't imagine much that can be added to the 1Ds successor other than more MegaPix.

The point is that Canon should not change the price that they listed in White Paper. This is a credibility (if not legal) issue.

Wow, that sound can scare animals and small children.
Just tipped the scale for me in favor of buying one.

I've you keep on shooting like that, with little discipline, apart from the workflow you'll reach the limits of your shutter's life pretty quickly...like after a month of use

Yes, but Canon will replace the shutter under warranty.

Legal issue? Please, Canon is a company and can charge whatever they please. It may upset some people, but that is another matter.

John Shultz: Canon is a company and can charge whatever they please

I am not sure how it is in your neck of the woods but where I live, the price on the sticker is what the cashier charges regardless of any mistakes they had made. Of course, it is completely irrelevant if no one complains.

But MSRP is not the price on the sticker - it is a manufacturer's suggested retail price. Individual dealers have some leeway to charge differently, though Canon might get on them if they push things too much.

From my talks with dealers, all Canon really cares about is MAP, minimum advertised price. If they(Canon) find out dealers are selling (actually advertising) below that, then allocations are "adjusted." Canon can put any price they want down as long as they keep that little footnote they always use "Actual prices are set by dealers and may vary."
