The point is that Canon should not change the price that they listed in White Paper. This is a credibility (if not legal) issue.

Nonsense--a price was listed in a white paper. That is not an offer or a guarantee of any kind. They can change the price--they can even change the specs.

'Ooops!' <--that's all Canon need say on the matter--if they care to say anything at all about it. I'm taking the first one I can get my hands on, and I expect to pay more than someone who waits a year. It works that way with cars, houses--hell pal--that's just the way it works. Get used to it

I am not sure how it is in your neck of the woods but where I live, the price on the sticker is what the cashier charges regardless of any mistakes they had made. Of course, it is completely irrelevant if no one complains.

I live in America. A company can pretty much do whatever the hell they please round these parts, I reckon...

Sticker price and pre-release estimated retail are of course very different as I would expect you could understand. Also, a retailer can make a mistake and mislabel something, they don't need to sell you an item for the sticker price either. If I label a car for $7,999 and the "7" falls off, you don't get to buy a 999 dollar car from me. Honestly, you make it sound like the goverment is involved in some law of labeling but that isn't how it works, thank god!

Doesn't Calumet usually sell at MSRP, more expensive than B&H or Adorama? I notice that they have the 30D marked down from $1399 to 1199 when you put it in your shopping cart.

My 30D is on crutches and waiting to go to Irvine once these hit the street.

Dunno how it is in the US, but in the UK the sticker price is 'an invitation to treat' - ie neither you nor the seller has to abide by it - a contract is not formed until you agree with the vendor either verbally or in writing what you are prepared to pay and what they will accept - so next time you go to the supermarket, ignore the prices on the label, and at the checkout after they have added it up and ask you for £50, offer £25! ;-)

Although slightly OT, where I'm from, Michigan, there is a scan law that says if an item is mislabeled, they have to sell it for that price even if it scans at the higher price. In fact up until a year ago, if you paid the scanned price, and then took a lesser labeled item to the service counter, stores were required by law to give you an "award" of the difference plus 10 times the difference up to $5. The law has changed slightly and the "award" is at the discretion of the stores, but several retailers around here, like Home Depot and Meijers, still give out the $5. So around here, the government is involved in some law of labeling.

I am from Ontario, Canada and our stores do not have any choice - they have to sell for labeled price!

Does anyone have any information on the initial price of the Canon EOS-1D Mark III? I am looking at a new Canon EOS-1D Mark II N right now, what are the differences? Thanks

Around $4,000, but could be as high as $4500. We shall see quite soon.

You might want to post your question in the Sticky thread at the top of the board.

There are pages of discussion about pricing in THIS thread. This thread should be merged into the main thread.

I know I'm terribly late to the party here, but a question (that may or may not have been covered already): Did they retain the AA filter from previous models, or is part of the proposed improvement in image quality due to the removal or reworking of the AA filter?

The upgrade in AF is really nice, and almost enough to start me thinking about getting one. The improvement in high-ISO noise also is really nice, and if ISO 3200 really looks as good as lower ISOs on the MkII--i.e., if it's not just a matter of software reducing color noise--then I'm really close to getting one. If they scrapped the AA filter (aka "the softmaker"), then I simply have no choice but to get one.

A canon rep at pma said that the AA filter in the 1DIII is weaker than the filters in the 1D2 & 1D2n....how much weaker the filter is compared to the previous models wasnt established by the rep.

If the ability to custom-tune your camera's AF to each lens doesn't push you over the edge,...your resistance is very high indeed! :-)

Last I heard it was for $4500. Is that correct?
