Ok, after no real rumours for some time I am going to make my predictions for the 1 Series for 2007.
A new 1D series camera will be announced for PMA. It will have a size similar to the 1V, and will be 8.5 fps with a full frame 12.8MP sensor. ISO will now be 100-3200 (extendable to 50 and 6400). There will be a refinement of the 45 focus point system, with more cross sensors.
There will be multiple grips available for the camera, including a WiFi grip, and a basic grip that simply adds battery capacity.
There will be a customiseable button that can be set to MLU.
The camera will be very water-resistant and will have a shutter rated for 200,000 cycles.
Price will be approx US$4500, dropping to under $4,000 within 12 months.
Approximately 3 months later the new 1Ds will be announced. It will be effectively the same camera, but with a 22MP sensor, and a maximum frame rate of 5fps. Price will be $7500, dropping to $7,000 within 12 months
Neither camera will feature internal storage. Neither camera will feature a larger than 24mm x 36mm sensor. There will be no further 1.3x cameras.
Canon will also issue a 40D at PMA - not prepared to speculate re. that.
OK, now this is all speculation, but I reckon it is very close to what is going to happen this year.

Latest news I heard is there are no NDAs for any new EOS-related items scheduled for PMA 2007.
Seems to me that it would be pretty difficult to field-test samples without utilizing the valued input of real-world photographers, each of which would have to sign an NDA.

Oh, by the way, I saw a guy at the zoo the other day with a camera all taped up with black gaffer tape attached to a Canon white lens. He kept on writing something down on his PDA after each shot. Could that be the pre-production 1DS MKIII
No - he's working under an NDA from 3M, testing a new type of black duct tape. If it works for this purpose, it will then be further tested at NASCAR this summer.

Canon has stated that they will not be giving up on the 1.33x sensor of the 1D series so I doubt it will be FF.

Antony, I agree with you. I'm sure they will throw something in here just to prove us wrong, but I believe this is pretty close to being on.
I could really use that 1D.
Forget it for now. Too much of a hassle. Do we have commercial fuel-cell phones? Nope. And that's a much faster developing market than professional cameras. Do we have commercially available FC-powered laptops? Again, shorter development cycle, bigger market, but no, no fuel cell here.
And the technical part is difficult as well. FCs can't respond very rapidly to spikes in demand, while batteries can. Methanol containers or cartridges in airplanes will remain a big issue. Electricity for recharging is much more widely available than the proper clean methanol/water mixtures.
Canon (or more likely a venturous 3rd party) may respond by making a hip-portable fuel cell, for those PJs or docu makers that hike across the desert, outback or rainforest. Or perhaps a semi-portable FC battery charger. It's way to early for widespread replacement of the Lithium based batteries.

You could have seen a film shooter who didnt own a data back.
I know there are fewer Nikon people here (and everywhere for that matter these days) but while we have 110+ pages of arguing, nonsense, and half-baked speculation, there isn't even a major PMA thread over in the Nikon forum. Nothing on the first, second, or even the third page.

Just an interesting observation guys.

Wonder what that says about us, and about them
That we are much more intelligent and inquisitive? That we don't wonder what people think of us? That Nikon delivers most products long after announcement? That people stuck with Nikon because they couldn't afford to change, so have less interest in new products? That we have a sticky thread (note the icon), and that keeps it going? That we're more fun loving? That we're better looking and better dressed? What?
All I want is the Mark II N to get a bump in resolution.. Let's say 12.8 MP?? I imagine it'll stay with the APS-H sensor, which is ok with me. This is all I'm really hoping for.
As for Digic III... I'm really not concerned. My Digic II is fine. I only shoot RAW anyway, so image processing in camera is not my biggest concern.
As for the others... I have no clue. I love the quality and consistency of my 5, but still use my 20D, and love it. I just wish it had a larger viewfinder, better AF and a larger frame.. Whch brings me to desire the Mark IIn's replacement.. I thought I would be content with my current combo for a while, but that was short-lived!!
EOSfun seems to be is giving us what he heard, as opposed to what is in this thread. I believe anyone who has read the entire thread is insane. Look what happened to Jim.....

I just love this thread! I'm wanting to buy the 40D (or whatever it's called) and replace my 20D which I love but it's growing whiskers!!!
It's funny. When I put "40D" in Google, it returns a bunch of bra ads and other information about women with large endowments.
That is an obvious hint that 40D will feature bigger buffers than your whiskered 20D.
I guess Nikonists would say they do not need to discuss upcoming products since they already have the best prosumer product with the D200 and it is unlikely from what have been discussed here for days that the 40D will be even better. Probably cheaper, yes...
I hope they are wrong and Canon will surprise us with a new 12Mpix 1.6xCF weather sealed body with spot metering, auto ISO (although I do not really care), etc...
Does anybody knows how the Canon D40 sells and if Canon will fight back on this new easy-cheap DSLR segment? Also it sounds to me like a move in trying to block or at least put some confusion with the upcoming 40D name?
So really! Where do we go from here with the D200 and the 30D being so close?
The Nikon definitely has more features such as VF , auto ISO , seals, better ergs and a bit more resolution but the 30D has cleaner high ISO`s , better battery life , may well be the better sports body , and yet cost hundreds less .
They both need to close open gaps on each other so we could all benefit much from those marginal improvements. They undoubtedly have that in mind and are continually able to keep sqeezing (milking) those who want more than the last model offered or those who want to say they have the latest and greatest..
Particularly pay attention to the the 'Product ID' in that page that now links to the "400D" data... On the 23rd that blog reported that the 400D web pages previously were located at 'product_id=10289', but now that page is non-existent. Take things a step further...look at what's located at product_id=10290', product_id=10291', and product_id=10292'... these if I'm not mistaken are all products that were announced back in September and/or around the time that the 400D was announced, etc... This would seem to back up the info that the 400D info pages were moved, possibly to cover up the 40D page that was briefly put up...
Of course this really doesn't give us any data on what features the 40D would have... but it seems that maybe it gives us some clue that the 40D page was in the works and/or covered up...
