Just an interesting observation guys.
I know there are fewer Nikon people here (and everywhere for that matter these days) but while we have 110+ pages of arguing, nonsense, and half-baked speculation, there isn't even a major PMA thread over in the Nikon forum. Nothing on the first, second, or even the third page.
Ok seeing no one's mentioned it, I'll say Eye Control Focus will finally makes it's debut in a DSLR this year and will be much better than that on the EOS 7NE, which is better than that on the EOS 3.
EOSfun!, I know that your posts on the “rumor threads” are usually spot-on. So I’m paying particular attention to what you are saying. Do you know anything else about the 1DsIII? I was about to buy a new medium format digital back but I may hold off a couple of months to test-out the 1DsIII and see how it can do if I know it will be released for sure at PMA. Is this pretty much for sure for PMA? Do you know anything about price? Is it going to be in the ball park of the 1DsII? Thanks for your help!
In the past the best source for leaks were magazine staff. The big mags have up to a 3 month lead time for articles before printing. Canon really pulled the cone of silence down this time, Maxwell Smart would be proud.
Heres what I would like to see in the 40D to make me upgrade
-10-12mp, but I dont really need them
-better AF, simmilar to what it has now but with sensors at intersecting therds, with more than one cross type sensors, at least 5
-weather sealing
-better dinamic range, Digic III maybe
-onboard flash to be off camera master and have a function to put the onboard flash to manual to prevent preflash
-anti-dust
-brighter viewfinder
-ISO shift? you set AV and TV camera sellects ISO, have the ISO in the viewfinder full time
-5 frames per second untill the card is full for jpg and at lest 50 for raw
-stick with CF cards!!!
- vertical shutter release and scroll wheel, like the photoshopped 3D would be a killer bonus.
I'm moving up from my (recently sold) 20D which has been an awesome first dlsr for me. I'd like a pro body such as an upgraded MkIIn....I'm getting bad vibes from you guys that the MKIIn will continue as is through ' 07!!! I feel I may be left behind
on Canon's PMA release. 40D(?) I would want a little more.... Mk1dsIII 22 megs will be to much $.........so what do I do? I keep reading waiting like everybody else..Anybody have a tissue?

As for the 40D, SD cards With the 40D as a "upgrade" from 300,350, 20D,30D etc...i would think Canon would keep it the same. CF cards. If they were going to change that, they would have with the 400 XTI. The 400 XTI is an entry camera to the Canon SLR from Point and Shoot. Just how I see it! Could be wrong!
Sure hope they don't go to the SD cards. I have already destroyed 2 of these. Don't put them in your pocket with keys or change without putting them back in their little case (even for a short period). I do this often with the CF cards and no problems. Not so with the SD cards as they are pretty fragile. Contact with the keys or pocket change when kneeling or sitting damaged my cards and all images were lost because they would no longer fit into the camera or a reader.

Why would you do that? Doesn't make sense to toss them around so roughly...especially with contacts exposed. Don't you use battery covers for back up batteries?

because that's how normal people treat gear. if storage media can't take a few hours in a pocket then what's the point? canon knows this and CF will remain the standard in 1-series and other high-end DSLRs for years to come until the CF standard is improved upon or replaced. SD is slower, has less capacity, and is fragile -- none of which will fly in a typical shooting environment. storage has to be durable. it's the lifeblood of the photos we make.
every pro, semi-pro, and amateur DSLR shooter i know uses CF cards exclusively, nikon and canon users alike. there's good reason for that.
So not much hope of a wide prime? A new 20mm anyone? I know there is always a call for the $1000+ L lenses, but I'd love a great consumer lens in the wides. Doesn't need to be crazy fast, just better optics than the current model.
