There will likely be another announcement, though not for a "40D". There will be a printer/digicam/lens (perhaps an EF-s) package of press releases coming I expect.
Next stop is CEBIT, as the Japanese show is too close to PMA. After that expect a summer announcement (July or August), then one later in the year.

One interesting thing to think about is that the 1DMkIIN was released well after the 1DsMkII, meaning that the 1DsMkII is more overdue for an update than the 1DMkIIN was. This raises the possibility that the 1DsMkII will be announced. The 5D was released at the same time as the 1DMkIIN, but since it was in some ways a breakthrough camera, it may not be supplanted yet. (waah) As for the 30D replacement, it just doesn't make sense to keep it in the shadows any longer. Claims of "robust sales" aside, I just don't see it as a competitive camera now, much less going forward.

Why not? last winter I bought a 20D as a first time DSLR purchase. Many would buy the 30D as a first time DSLR purchase or a second body or a replacement for a 10D, 20D, etc...
If you're saying why wouldn't they buy Nikon instead, remember, it's the whole package. Lenses, accessories, reputation, expected quality, etc. Trust me from someone that's been there... the 'net makes a very good and clear argument that Canon is the way to go. This forum usually does too, but lately that line is a little bit more blurry.
If you're saying why not go with the XTi instead, then I see you point much better. The XTi must be taking a bit out of the 30D's sales, but the 30D is a much beefier camera with 100,000 shutter cyles, larger ISO range, and 5 FPS. The percieved "quality" is certainly greater than the XTi. Is that worth almost twice as much? I don't know that answer. If I didn't own a camera today, I still don't think I'd buy the XTi.

Which CeBIT? The next one in Hanover, Germany, is from 15 to 21 march. That's practically on the heels of PMA, not even a full week later.

Exactly. This way they have one show for each cam.
Make sense, the Cebit is crowded with consumers. Ideal for the 40d. I hope so.

Looks like there is a new Camera Body. 1D Mark III. 10mpix.
From Yahoo News: Canon will begin sales of the EOS-1D Mark III from late-May for an expected retail price of about 500,000 yen ($4,132). The device, with 10.1 megapixel resolution, is equipped with two image processors to allow faster processing of high-quality images.

30D is a strange camera. When it was released a year ago everybody (I for sure) was quite disappointed with the very small upgrade from 20D. I did not have much choice (after selling 20D) and bought it. Half a year ago many hoped for 40D and "everybody" was certain that Canon would release 40D this Spring. The bottom line is that 30D is a solid camera but a very old design and should be upgraded soon. I do not have 30D anymore and may just go for 1D mkIII. I had 30D (two actually) and XTi - di not like either.

Possible. The AF improved by one stop. But that had to do with light sensitivity, it can AF at -1 EV to 18 EV. It wasn't about max lens aperture, which would go from f/8 to f/11 if misread.
