Couldn't have said this better myself.
Nothing wrong with referencing other sites and photographers, but there's just no reason to do it in an antagonistic way. IMO this thread pretty much put Paul on the spot from the very beginning and he's handled this with flying colors.
However, I think this thread has long worn out its welcome.
