Pei, sorry you missed it too. But, this is probably a good time to pick up R gear as the resale prices are lower as some have gravitated to M equipment. No one knows for certain, but it looks like the next iteration will be an R10 stand-alone digital camera. Though it is probably 1-2 years away.
That sounds unlikely, to be honest. There *could* be such a bug, but it would have to mean that they didn't test it at all, not even a single time, and this doesn't make sense. I wonder what is going on with these settings. Could you post some crops?
Carsten,
Just did a very quick and unscientific test so I'm not sure. But it may be the case that the low setting softens the image a little compared to the off setting.
I went walkabout again today with only the C/V 15mm (plus external viewfinder) on the M8. I need to figure out how to mask the add on viewfinder a little better, because a lot of stuff was a bit hit and miss, but even so, it was a lot of fun.
Of course, this now makes me wonder about the C/V12.....
Here is a shot of York Minster. I never got a satifactory shot of this with my 1Ds2 + wide angle, because I was always unhappy with the corners (I only ever had Canon wide angle - so that would probably explain it!). The C/V did quite a nice job, and this printed to A3 without showing any obvious corner degradation at all.
The C/V15 is a NICE little lens, and for the money, it's hard to complain. For sure it would be nice if it were rangefinder coupled... but given that the distance ruler shows 2m then infinity, it's pretty hard to get distant stuff too out of focus - especially at F8-F11. It would also be nice if the view finder were sized for 1.33 crop too, but I guess that's fixable with a bit of masking tape
Also interesting is that the view finder shows a LOT more distortion than the lens itself.
The one thing that always spoils these shots for me is that there are other people in them.... and I waited ages for it to be as quiet as this was. I never did get as 'clear' shot. I guess I need to get my lazy bones out of bed early morning to get a clear shot. There is not a lot of room to take this either.... It requires you to back down a narrow street until the buildings on the end of the street you are in start appearing in your view finder. Then you have to move your camera around to best eliminate the other buildings.... Not very good planning by the builders if you ask me...!

So, the stability of another favorite thread goes away...
Does anyone know why my Leica M8 at some moment in time started taking pictures with names like L1010001 rather than L1000001? The 101 seems to be a folder name somehow, but I didn't reset it myself. Resetting the sequence results in L1010001 again...

The DMR does this too, you've probably just scrolled past 1000 shots with it, I think 999 or 1000 is the max number of files in a folder; when you reach that limit, it makes a new folder, named serial 100, 101, 102, ....It doesn't matter how many shots are actually in the folder, just how many are shot consecutively without resetting. Once you have a 101 folder on your card, it will stay there until you reformat.
A-ha! I have reformatted before, of course, but not used the reset command(s) in the menu as well as reformatted. That did the trick.
I have not shot more than 1000 photos, but it seems Leica has, during their adjustment. It came back like that, after I had shot around 100. Unfortunately, they shot the remaining 900 shots without checking the focus, somehow, because it came back still in need of adjustment.
If not, I saw one today at KaDeWe, Kaufhaus des Westens, a department store in Berlin. Here is the link, but I don't know if they sell over the internet. This page does not list the M8, but it is there!

I am up to numbers > 1000 on my M8. The names on my most recent upload are up L1001247.DNG and L1001247.JPG as I am doing both for now. When I copy files to my desktop (Mac) from an SD card, they always end up in a folder called 100LEICA. I manually edit the folder name before dragging into my pix archive to prevent accidental deletion as one can't have 2 folders of the same name inside a given folder.
Tom
My folders went back to 101 again. I don't know what it all means. Perhaps the new firmware 1.09 has this effect, among others. Meanwhile, I have bought a 35/2 Asph. from another generous FM and LCU member, and it should be here next week. This represents a change in my philosophy, in that I previously thought that I would simply use CV15, 28/2 Asph, 50/1.4 Asph and 75 Cron or Lux, but I miss the 50mm-equivalent focal length, and it will also be useful on my M6. Besides, it is very small, which is good for carrying under the jacket.
Your 28 will be then too close to the 35 and you'll start wondering if maybe the 24 wouldn't be a better focal lenght... same for the 50 asph, so why not switch to a Noctilux for those few occasions where you need the fastest lens available ?... but then wouldn't be the 35 Summilux asph a better "normal" lens than the 35/2 asph ?... and what about the 75 as maximum focal lenght ?... 90 Apo is amazing and the longest you can easily frame on the M8... but there's also that 135 Apo or 135 with googles... too distant from the 50 though, so the 75 is still needed...
P.S. My setup is complete and rock solid: 15 CV, 28/2, 50 asph and 90 Apo. Don't even think to tempt me with something else... _poke_
Marco, the 24 is a f/2.8, so it can't win IMO against the 28/2. If I need something between 28 and 15, it'll be the 21. I like your setup and will likely have the same, except also a 35/2 Asph, and a 75 instead of the 90. I might add a 90 Macro later.
Note that I have also the 21 asph but I'm trying to figure out if I could make without it.
I love it, but for the M8 I'm leaning toward few, well spaced focal lenghts.
Indeed, considering my use of the M8, there are very few occasions where either the 15 or the 28 don't do the job and they are mostly landscape and architecture with precise framing, something an SLR is more suited to.
But giving I don't have any real wide on the DMR (maybe I'll get a 21-35), I still keep the 21 asph for those occasions.
If you use only the M8, then definitely get also the 21 asph, 35 asph (Summilux maybe) and 90 macro.
