Please post your hands-on experiences with the Leica M8 here. Now that the camera is shipping, I figure it's a good time to start a hands-on thread to compile relevant information in one place.
Please folks, try to keep this thread on topic, so that the thread can hopefully become a valuable resource for those looking for real-world info on this new camera, provided by those that actually own it. Feel free to provide image examples, 100% crops, and any relevant details about it, especially in relation to other cameras in its class.
I tried one out last week for a short time. I ordered one immediately...
My first impressions are posted here: http://mortengrathe.blogspot.com
I will review the camera later this year. In december i'm going to Cuba...perfect for a longterm test.
Like the M8 I was demoed to. the shutter release is diferent from my M6 TTL . it feels more like the M6TTL with M winder . the shutter button kicks up a liitle bit when trying to wind to the next frame. Shutter sounds may be a tad louder than M6 but acceptable since it's a metal shutter a la R8/R9. I have a chrome one on order and can't wait to put my M lenses on it.
I tried one last week for a short time as well.
I liked it a lot too but I found that changing the memory card is a pain. Well. may be that's the same kind of problem by changing films in all the M cameras.
I had tried on with few lenses: 21 asph, the new 28f2.8 asph, 50f1.4 asph and the 75 asph.
I am surprised and glad to know that the viewfinder covered almost to the crop of the 21mm (ie 28mm) such that I don't need to use an external viewfinder.
I am planning to get one too but may be next year? I want to wait until there are more reviews. =)

Glad to hear you can easily frame the 21 with the internal viewfinder.
How was the focussing with the 75 ?
I mean the 21mm can be used with the internal finder but of course, the frameline is not 100% accurate but very closed.
I read that 25mm can be used in the R-D1 without external viewfinder too?
how did you liked the R-D1? Which lenses you got?
Focusing with 75mm is not too bad but again the depth of view is soo shallow. My prelminary shots shows that it's useable but I guessed it required some practices??

Same here as I am relying on that lens to give me the 28mm effective coverage. In my Contax G days, I never used the 21mm with the external finder. I peered through the built-in viewfinder and added some extra framing by looking at the overall view with my naked eyes. With the instant gratification of the digital M8, you will get the feel how much will be added to what you see in no time.
Hey! Small actual error in your review! The longest lens Leica recommends is the 135/2.8 I'll give you, though, that that one is no longer in production. Nice review btw
Friday, November 3rd - My Leica dealer has not received any M8 yet. So, he has not given me any indication as to when it will be shipping. Has anybody actually received his/her M8 or at least received the confirmation and his/her has already been shipped for Saturday (tomorrow) delivery? Well, I guess what is coming down to is whether the M8 availability this weekend more a hype or for real....
Joshua, I am in the same position. My dealer was supposed to receive the M8 today and overnight it to me for Saturday delivery. When it didn't show up today he called Leica and supposedly it should arrive in the shop on Monday.
