"Ruff-Stuff" should be very photogenic, having come right from the paint shop! I can hardly wait!! Do ya suppose 5 16 GB and 10 8 GB cards, plus a couple of 4 GB SD's is enough? The good thing about my 1Ds MkII is that the buffer acted as a governor on my trigger finger!

I used to have an art teacher who said: "Never throw away your art, you never know when it will be worth something." She was right - she just predated digital!

We probably all face the task of going through our HDs and deciding what should be thrown out and what should be kept.

You can save yourself the trouble by not throwing stuff out The price of a gigabyte of storage will cost you less than the time spend critically sorting through shots.

i can't even begin to describe how envious i am of the few who are able to fly ww2 era aircraft. i fantasize about that being my glove dangling over the side of the cockpit in a p-51!

jim isn't that one of the only lightnings in existance that's still flying?

Dear WP,

I know what you mean. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to fly a piece of history like the T-6. There's an incredible feeling that washes over you when you lower yourself into that cockpit and fire her up, I really can't explain it. I've always disliked the attitude that accompanies some pilots flying powerful and sexy planes, so I try my best not to exhibit the ego that machines like these tend to bring to the forefront. Whenever I fly the Six anywhere I always leave the canopy open and invite anyone around to climb into the cockpit and get a taste of what it's like. I remind myself often as I'm taxiing in that but for the good fortune God has blessed me with, I could be on a used Schwinn instead!

As far as the 38, there aren't many around that are airworthy, maybe three. "Ruff Stuff" is going to be a great addition to a very elite group.

If you're ever in the Dallas area, let me know and we'll go warm up the Pratt & Whitney together!

Sincerely,

Jim

I leave for Oshkosh this evening!!! A week of sun, fun, planes, and 9000 photos(last years total). I will post photos daily from Oshkosh for anyone that is intrested. I will be at the Comm Center (announcer stand) all week if anyone wishes to stop by, except Sunday I will be photographing the Air Race finshline down the road. Good luck to all and have fun.

We might see something really rare this year, a formation of P-38's. I don't know what the plan is but it would be a cool thing to shoot.

ever seen the movie 'empire of the sun'? there's a scene in it where the young boy, whose been interned in a japanese pow camp in china is watching as several teenage kamikaze take off on their last mission. as they rise from the airfield into the setting sun, one of them, then other suddenly explodes in a huge ball of fire. the way it's filmed causes the moment to come as a total, brutal shock. why did they fireball? because, as you see in the next scene, the cavalry has arrived! a p-51d at about 100 feet glides across the screen in super slow motion...the canopy is back and you can clearly see the pilot looking at the boy, who by now is running along the fence screaming "peeeeeeee fiiiiiiffffffttteeee oooooonnnne muuuuustaaaaanggg!!!" at the top of his lungs and waving his skinny arms for all he's worth. the pilot grins and gives him a perfect wing wag salute before flying into the same sunset.

one of my favorite moments of all the movies i've ever seen.

jim, you probably know the pilot, don't you?
