No, that was cooperative, I am pretty sure. Or, it is simply not covered by any patents any more.
I sincerely doubt it was cooperative, but simply, as you say, not covered by any patent or any specific technological know-how. It is basically an archaic, obsolete lens mount -- not significantly different than the Leica mount in the scheme of things, it is basically an open standard. Nikon does not even use the mount in the version used in the ZF lenses (and hasn't done so for many years). Further, there are other manufacturers making camera equipment/components using the old Nikon mount, including Sinar and Horseman.
We need more meat the alternate Rumor thread! Help me out I’m starting to slack back into Canonland
Yeah the M8 is going to be huge!
What about medium format backs? Someone has to have heard some juicy leaks about what’s coming out at Photokina? If not we need to put a pool together to hire some moles to go underground at Phase One, Sinar, leaf, the new Mamiya and Imacon/Hassy
Oh well – I guess we have a whole month to wait for rumors to pop up.
I want to know what's going on with the Pentax 645. What are those cameras like? They look kinda funny, not like the beautiful Contax 645 cameras :) And is only Sigma going to release a Foveon-based camera?
Yes we need that camera to come out and be a success unlike the mamiya zd..not just for the use of that camera itself but also to hopefully bring down the prices of current / new 22mp backs...
To me that will be the best thing about the pentax as needing shifts I would have to opt for a camera / back combo over an all in one.
so brent you think 8k usd for the pentax so we should be looking at 7k for the digital 22mp backs from the others as pricing..now at that price it is good..
I've read that Leaf is selling off the Aptus 17 for $7K already. So we're getting there!
I don't think we've heard the last of the ZD series. The big problem with the ZD is software and I've heard that is exactly what the new Mamiya company is working on. So it could turn out to be a great camera with great software for the price in a few months.
Yes. We haven't hear the last of Mamiya. The firm that bought Mamiya is not going to just fold the business without trying to make it all work the way people expect it to. They are going to at least give it one good try. We'll see if they have anything to unvail at Photokina. The hardware looks goos, they just have to nail the software this time.
Pentax, too. They have to s**t or get off the pot. (so to speak). It's time for everyone to see a product, or it will be dismissed as eternal vaporware and ignored from now on.
Zeiss also has to show some of it cards in how it is planning to significantly participate in this market (ZF, ZA and ZM lens presence is not significant, regardless of what anyone might say).
But there will be significant pressure on Leaf, Phase One, Sinar/Jenoptik and Imacon to reduce prices due to rumoured continuous advance of Canon and the potential success of budget Mamiya and Pentax offerings. The target is going to have to be $7K for a 22mp back and no more than $15K for the 39mp backs. That represents a significant price decline from today -- but quite frankly Kodak and Dalsa should have moved down the production learning curve on their chips to reduce costs significantly and expand volume. If Canon has indeed going to produce a MF system with stitched sensors as rumoured, life is going to get very tough for these boutique digital back producers.
according to this weeks bjp there is.."news from leaf and leica is imminent..".
Well we all know the leica news but what is the leif news..could be good.
sorry ..also yes..lets have a good mamiya zd either in II incarnation of just with improved software..that again would help the market..and what ever happened to the zd back..22mp..self contained..nice and cheap..I wonder if they are still working on that?
Correct; kinda. I was told directly by a dealer that Leaf has a limited supply of refurbished Aptus 17s that were demo and loaner units (to people waiting for the Apts 65) and are now being sold for 50% off list, so they're selling for about $7500. (With full 1 year warranty). I'm highly tempted, but I'm also highly tempted by the Aptus 65. A nd I'm going to sit on my wallet til Photokina anyway...

I was discussing some view camera /medium fomrat / digitla stuff today with a dealer and as well as being given some very good advice was told that there is something in the offing from horseman at phokina..something very interesting.
No more than that i am afraid..is it september yet?
