If it is true that there will de a 1.3 crop 3D, what pricetag will that have?
The 5D is in the netherlands €2479,- and after rebate €2179,- is it going to be less expensive because it is 1.3x VS FF.
I have a 350D for over a year now and i'm hoping that i can resist the urge to buy a 30D or secondhand 1D for the next 2 years.
First good lenses....
And then 1.3x crop or fullframe, bye bye EF-s
I just recieved AC foto´s ( a german internet based camera retailer) september newsletter. They have the 30D as a "special offer" at 1,111€ and the 580EX at 399€.
1st quarter 2007, so not strictly speaking Photokina:
Offical name: 7D
Size: smaller than 5D
Config: almost same as 5D
Price: around $US2100
Launch: 2007 first quarter http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=19905049
SuperPeter again - has made some good predictions in the past, but not everything has worked out.
If this one happens, count me in!

The world is indeed a nutty place. Why on earth would Canon release a "7D" that is basically a 5D but smaller? Doesn't make a lick of sense from any perspective. Since things are getting so bizarre around here, let's just take the non-existent 40D and divide it by the non-existent 7D and assume that Canon will call their new camera the 5.714285D and release it some time between today and never.

Look closely at the 4 in the 40D on the label. It's the wrong size and inconsistent with the rest of the logo (0D). That also looks suspiciously like the "40D" logo on a photoshopped pic that somebody posted yesterday intending to be funny. The lens is different, so it is not exactly the same pic - but it ain't a real 40D either.
Ooops, my bad. I didn't read their caption closely enough. I saw the pic and knew it was not real. Since the story is now removed, I have no idea what they alleged. Did they cite anything mildly believable, or was the article rooted in speculation and rumor? Not much of a scoop if it was. Now that I think of it, not much of a scoop even if they had "evidence".

That was me, and it was funny. Anyone that might think I was serious should have their head examined.
OK, does anyone know when the Canon fall rebate will be offered and what will be on it? I have heard October, and also have heard the 5D will have a $500 rebate. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, but the goofy thing is I think someone picked it up and ran with it elsewhere: "a reliable source said...". Now THAT's funny!
What's sad is that it sheds light on how quickly rumors that play on people's hopes get spread. Kind of reminds me of playing "whisper down the lane" as a kid.
The holiday season is too important for Canon to afford throwing a 8MP camera into the sea of 10MP ones. Believe it or not, average people perceive big difference between 9.9 MP and 10 MP, not to mention 8 and 10. Canon has already made the misstep (commercially) by introducing the 8MP 30D and gave up a lot of market to the D200, and it is not too late to correct the mistake.

You're right about people - just look at pricing at the typical store. Nothing is $10.00, it's always 9.99 or 9.95. Gives the impression of big savings despite it being an insignificant amount.
As for Canon, I think that they simply weren't ready with a suitable 10 mpx sensor in time. The D200 comes across as a great price/feature package, and Canon needs to answer this. Of course, they could not answer with a non-existent product. Perhaps, if the 40D is anything close to true, they now have an answer.
Lots of us would love such a thing, but equally many current 1-series devotees would stand up and assure us that Canon would never demean the 1-series by allowing its hallowed 45 pt AF system into a lesser body. Who knows, they may be right. In the meantime we should just go out shooting and not worry about it.
