This is the only forum i've been a part of that allows that. But i can't say i dislike it. A lot of problems have been avoided...or at least forgotten...because of this feature.
Well was your original post a hoax, a momentary lapse of judgment - or a violation of an NDA? Please, inquiring minds need to know.
That PM from Jeff was apparently after you posted to this thread and after you posted your conspiracy allegations (note Jeff's referal to your comment about Big Brother is Watching) .
This thread was and is clearly about spes for gear Canon has yet to release, and not about buying existing gear from the Buy and Sell board. I understand the written word is often a difficult method of communicating...and therefore you perhaps you didn't mean it...but your Big Brother is Watching comments gave all the appearance of pertaining to the subject of this thread.
But I will take you at your word when you say that wasn't what you meant to imply. I honestly don't want to have any acrimony with another member. It's just that I feel that sometimes Fred, Jeff, and the other moderators often catch undeserved flak.
Taz, my big brother comment was because the thread I was talking about had 'gone away' and the OP said he did not touch it, and no explanation was given. It was a mistake to use those terms. On this thread, I only added my original comment stating that I too thought that threads could disappear, because of my experience recently. Jeff's PM was obviously after I made that post, since he referred to my 'big brother' comment.
Timeline: Friday a b/s was posted that I replied to. Then that thread disappeared. Then I responded to this thread. Jeff then PMd me. Bad choice of words on my part but it was all innocent.
Again, my bad choice of words blew this thing up, I was just meaning to agree with the OP. I just could not see a reason for a simple buy/sell thread to disappear without an explanation. Jeff did what he thought best by deleting the original post but since nothing was said about it, I thought 'what the heck'?
I appreciate the job the mods do here, I ran a board for awhile and you had to constantly be on the lookout, and our board had no more than 100 posts per day. I had 2 forums I moderated and did not have the 'rights' to perform any moderation on forums other than mine. On FM, I don't know how many posts per day, but these guys have the ability to moderate forums other than the ones they are listed on. Heck, it would be a 24 hour a day job if you didn't have the ability to cover each others back.
I appreciate what Jeff did after I found out why. It is nice to have people watching over us like that.

I'm not sure if you are refering to my thread but if you are that is simply not true.
No, he's referring to another thread which he subtly referenced completely out of context, which gave the impression he was talking about your thread when he was really talking about something totally unrelated.

Whewh, that was tough to digest but i think i got it

Back to Canon digital SLR rumors,
Tim, do you still feel the information you shared in your original thread is accurate?

Jeff is right, but they were tied together by the fact that this thread talked about your thread disappearing, I was agreeing by relating an experience that happened to me. I obviously did not make that clear in my post. The title of this thread tied the events together, but the content did not. I guess that is what happens when you don't read closely enough. My apologies to all for adding un-needed confusion to this.
The danged thing is, I don't even know the thread that disappeared. It must have been a good one.

Guys, the thread I am talking about is not the same thread you are talking about. The thread I am talking about was in the buy/sell forum and I understand and appreciate why Jeff hid it. He was doing his job as a moderator.
It sure would have helped if you would have made yourself clear from the get-go.

This is still here, the mod's must be having as much fun as I am reading it.
Uh, no...

Taz, I don't know you but I do regret ever getting involved in this thread. Obviously I did not communicate my point very well. Also I did praise Jeff for 'watching over me' in this case. I didn't know why the thread was deleted and I thought someone owed an explanation, then I got Jeff's PM.
Jeff I hope you don't shoot me for posting this but it NEEDED to be cleared up.
Thanks, but it would have been much better to allow me to clear it up. If I'd been informed of this mess, I could have dealt with it, but since I (stupidly) chose to wait until 11am to check this thread... Well, we've all seen the results.
FYI, it is considered by many to be to be violating the confidence of a Private Message by posting it publicly, regardless of your intent. There are other ways to skin a cat (sorry to you cat-lovers out there).
IN SUMMARY:
I have tried in the past to give the forums I moderate a voice, to allow you all to tactfully discuss what you perceive as 'forum issues', without my stepping in and simply locking or deleting threads before they become large problems. I've (in the past) tried to stimulate constructive discourse, rather than just removing 'forum problems' from the public eye. I'm not talking about 'troll' issues here, I'm talking about forum issues that often need to be discussed by you all, to feel like you are involved in what this forum is, and what it will be in the future. Other moderators choose not give that latitude, and based upon this thread, I'm starting to think that maybe 'sterilizing' the forums may be the right thing to do (in many instances), let alone one heck of a lot easier than the approach I've chosen.
Jeff I thought long and hard about posting your PM but felt backed into a corner. I did protect the name of the person you were talking about. I had hoped you would have cleared it up earlier as well. I think that in the long run, it showed that you mods are watching out for us, as best you can. There are a swarm of us, only a handful of you.
One thing I can say is I usually learn from my mistakes. You can bet these same mistakes will not be made again.
