I don't think you can really control the shipping date. It depends on when the people (person?) at Sanho receive their shipments from Asia, pack it up and send it to the customer. I would not be too concerned. Have you tried sending an e-mail?

EB

Yes, I did I just wonder, because, if they only charge when the shipment takes place, I could order right away, and get on the current backorder, guaranteing to get my unit this next shipment... instead of waiting another week, and maybe having to wait another month :| If the charge is instant, I will wait untill next saturday. When I get an Email answer, I will let you guys know

I just checked my CC bill and Sanho charged it immediately. However, payment must be through Paypal even with the CC, so that is probably the reason. I now feel that Sanho is a legitimate outfit and the risk is minimal.

I tested the HD80 with a set of Energizer L91 cells. 104 GB of files downloaded from CF card to PSD is nice.

When travelling in Italy, do I need a power converter of some sort (plus plug adaptor) in order to recharge the batteries in the HD80?

If yes, would you be able to recommend travel power converter? TIA

Only a plug adapter is needed since the switching power supply accepts 100-240V input.

I ordered the HD80 (barebones) on Feb 27th. Paid via Paypal. I received notice that the unit would be processed for shipment on the 3/2. I received notification from UPS on 3/3 that unit was, in fact, in their possession for 3 Day Select shipping. I received the unit today. I was able to get the HD80 up and running without any problem. I installed a 100 GB Hitachi 7200 rpm, 8mb cache HDD and then formatted per instruction.
Inserted a full 2 gig CF card which transferred in less than 4 mins. And then transferred from HD80 to computer in less than 7 mins. Another

Foolishly I did all the testing with only one of the two HD80s. The (quite primitive) sliding power switch is very stiff on the other one, but the battery compartment lid seems to be better. After about 25 power cycles it is obvious that the switch will fail in the long term. Has anyone experience with returning one these cheesy HD80 devices to Sanho? There is not even a street address listed.

Trying everything from 4200 rpm Toshiba to 7200 rpm Seagate, there is only a little difference in performance. I'm curious why you would use a 7200 rpm drive. What is the battery life with the Hitachi?

Word of warning:

I ordered the HD-80 on Feb 28th and at that time there was no warning on their website that the item was not available. The promise was for 3 day delivery.

When I did not receive the item after 5 days I sent an Email wondering what happened. An automatically generated response promised a reply within 24 hours. Nothing.

Kept checking their website and noticed that they were out of stock. Sent another Email complaining of no reply to my first Email and the fact that they had charged my Credit Card despite the fact that they knew they could not fill my order within their guaranteed deliver time. No reply to my second Email either.

I have a concern that if I have a warranty problem that communication with this company will be impossible.

Very poor business in my opinion. Will wait to see if the promised delivery will occur shortly after March 17th as promised.

BurlRet:

I experienced a similar delay in ordering, about 17 days for delivery. Perhaps Sanho in the US just buys them from China after collecting the money instantly? I am debating whether it is even worth hassle to send the bad one in.

I'm reading and reading this post. The question I have is how fast does it download to the computer?

I've just aquired a 'new to me' D100 and am shooting RAW. 9+mb files. It takes almost, an, more than, an hour to get the images to my computer with a parallel port card reader.

I have both a need for a faster upload device plus mass storage. This HD/PDx... looks like a good candidate.

Apparently 10-13 MB/sec. depending on the system.

now how after 25 cycles have you determined the impending failure of said switch? has it failed yet?

Excessive force is required and the switch does not move smoothly. Although the lifetime is of course unknown, my past experience as an electronic repair tech indicates that the switch is questionable at best.

my current lifetime as an aircraft Mx avionics tech (Boeing and regretfully Airbus) tells me your acting like a pilot. "it does seem right but it works" is the line i deal with often. you have 2 choices use until it fails and still under warranty or send it back to california for a replacement. life is that simple.

well i gave you the address for return (which was real easy to find) and i find strange since you bought 2 that and yet the address was a mystery to you.

and please excuse me but that Bo_Shu was actually sjms. i was using his machine (family member) and forgot to log him off before jumping in.

I agree with sjms's aka bo_shu's sentiments. I seems that you are hell bent in finding something wrong with the HD80. If you were a electronic repair tech in the past, it should be simple to replace the switch if it fails in the future. If you don't like the product, go ahead and return the two you bought and be done with it. The technique of multiple postings with minor and even irrelevant complaints you seem to favor are getting quite old and boring. Similar to comments I made recently in another thread about tripod technology and BS, armchair whining as opposed to actual field experience holds very little credibility.
