p.1 #1 · HOLY COW!!!!!

Today I was opening presents and I opened one, and was shocked to see a... 10D!!!!!!
I was totally not expecting this, but I got lucky! It has several batteries with it, and a charger and all that stuff. I just have a question. Does anyone know how many actuations the 10D's shutter is rated for? I thinki it has 9500 actuations right now.

Congratulations!

Is this your first digital SLR? 9500 actuations doesen't sound like that much, so there should be plenty of life in it still, My 20D has over 25,000 actuations and its still going strong!

I think about 46k on mine, but I had it a few months before learning about the 'continuous' vs 'reset'. So it was reset very often for the first few months.

Congrats on the camera, it is a great one!

Congrats on your present. There is no safe solution to know precisely how many shutter actuation your 10D has (the camera counter can be reset or even pushed up if you insert a CF with a file on it with a high number file name).
Most common figure state 50k nominal life span of the shutter, but I would believe that most go further than this. Mine is almost 10k, going strong.

My 10D has over 80K on it... it still functions very well...while it's in semi-retirement I break it out about once a month so that I can appreciate the slow startup time..!

Well one thing can be said for the 'slow' 10D, it takes longer to wear it out ;-)

I think the Rebel lines are rated for 50,000
10/20D lines are rated for 100,000
and the 1D/1Ds Mark II lines are rated for 250,000

Merry Christmas to you. The 10D is a very capable camera. I was recently looking over some shots I took that initially I thought were with with a 1D. Checked the exif and saw they were the 10D. Don't worry about shutter clicks. I'l bet you'll never have to replace that shutter while you own it. It is a great piece of equipment.

Enjoy!

My 10D has just shy of 16,000 shots on it and is still going strong. Hope you enjoy the camera, I know I love mine!

It's either 50K or 100K. Whatever the 20D is, it's twice that figure. I remember some complaining to Canon that it had dropped shutter life on the 20D v. the 10D. You'll love the 10D.

The 30D was rated at 30,000. The 10D, Rebel-XT (and I assume the Rebel) were rated at 50,000. The 20D is rated at 100,000 (twice the 10D). The 1Ds and 1D were rated at 150,000. The 1Ds MkII and 1D MkII are rated at 200,000. I've not seen figures yet for the 5D.

Thanks for all the replies. I have heard from several people that they have 130,000 actuation 10Ds that work great. Does the frame counter actually have 5 digits Or does it reset every 10000 frames? I was wondering. This is my first good digital SLR, my old one was a Kodak DCS 520, which was not the greatest, but it worked OK, but now I have two DSLRs. Now I think I may ditch my P&S, but we'll see.

Congrats - the 10D is a great camera and it is QUIET compared to a 20D or a 1D MKII. That may be especially critical in small theaters or auditoriums (more so if your kid is performing!).

I sold mine to finance glass and in retropsect, I should have kept it for the venues where a loud shutter interferes with the shoot.

There are times when I only want to take a P&S because the other stuff is too big and/or conspicuous. Some times I know I only want 'snaps' so the P&S is much more convenient. Also, I have some shots taken with my Canon S40 that I could not have got with the SLRs because the lens would not have fit through the gaps!

Congrats your your 10D. It's a great camera, and you should enjoy it.

Great camera, recently I upgraded and was going to sell my 10D but then decided to keep it as a backup camera. Out the other day with different lens setups on my two cameras, the best shot of the day was a quick candid taken with my old camera.

hope you enjoy your new present.
