Now that I've upgraded from a 10D to a 5D, I intend to use the 10D still for long or macro work, but practically speaking the reality is I probably won't use it much from now on and am probably better selling. That will be a sad day indeed, we have travelled together to many places and it has done a stellar job and would be sorely missed. I may compromise and sell it to someone I know so I can pay it a visit every once in a while There's plenty of life in the old beast yet!
Yes, if Canon RATED the 10d at 50000, they're nuts, because my dad has tons of customers that have 80,000+ on them and they use them quite hard. I don't see my 10D having the shutter going out while I own it, the electronics will fail before then.

Yeah, the most popular figure that I read was 75,000 for a 10D. Everything I heard was the 20D is rated at 50,000 as it also has Canon's standard shutter, while the 5D is rated at 100,000.
Please stop spreading misinformation. This simply isn't true as has been stated by Jeff Donald and others. I don't know why you keep throwing the 50K number out there for the 20D, but it doesn't help new users to the forum to have misinformation spewed out.
I quote from Canon directly: "The shutter durability is about twice that of the EOS 10D." This is in reference to the 20D.
I think this shutter life thing has gone a little overboard.
It all depends how long your shutter will last. The 50,000 or so is from testing in a lab not in real world conditions.
Things such as you climate, the type of photography you do eg landscapes you would only shoot off 1fps while for sports/wildlife you may shoot off bursts at a time which would put more stress on the shutter curtins.
I think instead of worrying about how long your shutter will last, go out and take some photos, enjoy your camera and deal with a broken shutter when it fails on you.
OK! I have not been worrying about it, I am not a sports shooter and I sometimes shoot up to 1fps, but usually I am not even in burst mode. I am not hard on cameras, so I think it has a alot of life ahead of it!!!!! And yes, I am having fun, if only it wasn't raining right now.

We shoot sports events. One of my photogographers still has his original shutter in his 10D. It must have over 180K on the shutter. I have been through 3 20D's in the last 18 months.
What were the shutter counts on the 20d's when they failed?
