I've got some L zooms, but the primes are the best in my opinion. Their all around flexibility and low light prowess is great. I rarely shoot with my 17-40 f4L or my 70-200mm f2.8 IS L anymore. On a 20D I'd go with the following:

24mm f1.4L (or 35mm f1.4L on FF)
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.8
70-200mm f2.8 IS L

I'm an L guy though so really what I'd go for would be:

17-40 f4L for wide stuff
24mm or 35mm f1.4L
135mm f2L
70-200mm f2.8 IS L

1. 28 f1.8
2. 85 f1.8
3. Wolverine 60Gig portable hard drive
4. one open-jaw airline ticket.

THAT's what I call real-world photography.

Sorry if this is a little OT. A lot of you suggested both a 70-200mm and the 135mm f2L. For any that have this combo: do you find that you still use both equally?And, under what circumstances do you typically choose one or the other?

Keep in mind the 1.6x crop factor will only be around for 2 years. In light of that, I would suggest:

17-40 f/4.0L
24-70 f/2.8L
70-200 f/2.8L

50 f/1.4 - for portraits

Where did you hear that the 1.6x system will be around for only the next 2 years?

Anyway this is my current 4 lens setup:

Sigma 18-50, 28-105, 85/1.8, 70-200/4

Ideally would like: Tokina 12-24, Canon 24-105L, 70-200/4 & 85/1.8.

(but I would really want to break the rules and add a 70-200 f/4L, 85 f/1.2L and 135 f/2.0L)

I do nature and wildlife so:
1) 35mm f/1.4L
2) 135mm f/2.0L
3) 300mm f/2.8L IS
4) 500mm f/4.0L IS

Full frame or 1.6 crop dosen't matter, same lenses.

With only two L's on FF
- 35/1.4L
- 50/1.4
- 85/1.8 or 100/2 (prefer the 135/2 here. A illegal third L)
- 300/4L IS or 300/2.8L IS

And on 1,6x
- 20/2.8
- 35/1.4L
- 85/1.8
- 200/2.8L

My setup now, only got to find someone who wants to trade my 50mm/1.8 for his 35/1.4.

For walk around, the 17-85 IS, and the 70-300 DO IS. For wide, the 10-22. and for lower light, either the 24-70L, or just a 50 1.4.

though id probably swap the 100-400 IS for either a 300 f2.8 or a 400 f2.8
