AFAIK, the latest 10D firmware is still the one that was shipped with all initial orders, 1.0.0. Perhaps you are thinking of the 1.0.2 firmware update for the 1Ds?
holy crap. you've shot 7k photos in the two and a half weeks since the camera shipped?
you konw the shutter is only rated to 30k shots and it's not a self diagnosing shutter like the pro bodies?
if your shutter konks out on you in 6 months, buy a 1d or whatever is out at that point based on a pro body. i think your demands may be too high for a consumer body.
I have been away and then so busy I haven't been on this forum for a while- well I just got a 10D yesterday so this thread was really timely! MY 1D went down in Hawaii and then Canon Repair lost it for two weeks- then refused to expedite the service in time for this weeks wedding. Our camera store didn't have a loaner and we had been thinking about getting a 10D as a backup/new memeber of the family...
Larry, as a 1D user can you tell me some differences to look for and things to beware of? Have you had the overexposure problem I have heard others mention? I am reading the manual (after resetting of course!) but I need to use the thing this weekend (if my test prints come out ok) and i could use some advice.

You need to back up your images on somthing besides the 10D! I shot mine at a wedding last week and luckily backed it up with a 1D and some film. If I hadn't I would have been screwed! the images were really soft and I mean soft. I have done the reset and it seems much quicker, but it's kind of hard to trust it now if you make your living with it if you know what I mean. What was wrong with the 1D in HI?
I don't mean to sound down on the 10D, I think it's a wonderful value, but needs to prove itself after this initial round of issues everybody seems to be having?

My baby 1D suddenly stopped communicating with my flash in HI- during the recessional... luckily Michael and I always double cover that. I had to use his for the reception and he used the 1DS for the whole thing- of course that works beautifully but we plummet from 250 images to 90 per GB and this was a wedding with LOTS of photo ops! When I looked back over the past few weddings before that the problem had started to happen before that sporadically- maybe some kind of shorting problem. We sent it to Canon on the 10th of March and they lost it, apparently due to not being able to read Michael's name even though one of our business cards clearly showing our name was stapled to the letter. They found it but wont give it back for two weeks. I know, I know- we need to join the pro club. Just hadn't gotten to it yet. In any case, having one go down leaving us with DS/1D only made us feel we should have a fourth and the 10D sounded ideal. I plan to put it through lots of tests the next few days and now that you all have red flagged for me, I will use Michael's 1D whenever he is using the 1DS.
Why do they send cameras out with these flaws? I guess I should also ask why I need to have them in their first wave!

I sent mine back Ben...I gave it a good test in the practice rounds yesterday...it failed miserably. It produced total crap when using the 300/2.8/IS and the 135/2....enough for me as those are my two most used lenses...if they don't work on it I say goodbye 10D.

I am shooting a lot today in all different circumstances and lenses and the proof will come on download tonight.Everything looks sharp in the LCD but I know that doesn't mean much. I was sorry to hear your fix was short lived. I will just hope for the best as many folks have mentioned being totally happy with theirs. I certainly wont rely on it Saturday if it doesnt come through with flying colors...
Did you guys see the report on dpreview.com? It might be the lens that are at fault and not necessarily the camera (i.e. the lens might be out of spec)

That leaves quite a decision paganini...my 135 and 300 work perfectly on my 1D...so am I supposed to have them adjusted for the 10d my so-called backup cam and play the risk of those two lenses coming up empty on my main cam the 1D? I don't think so, the 10D is a work in progress IMO...not suitable for any professional shooting what-so-ever.

I agree Larry. I'm hanging out with the "Iron man" of baseball tomorrow for 4-5 hours tomorrow here in charlotte, it's the Charlotte Knights baseball team's opening day. Cal Ripken Jr is flying in for it since he played AAA ball here years ago and I'm documenting it for the team. If you think I'll rely on the 10D you're nuts! I'm really in a bind since that leaves me with only one good digital body and 3 lens that I use most when shooting baseball?
Oh well I guess it's time to load the provia, remember that stuff?

ROFL...I'm working overtime tonight rigging up a system to change lenses fast...the little fanny pak is good but it slows me down...As you know it's that naked feeling with the 1D cavity open that drives me nutzo re: dust...but hell...I'm going to work it out some way.
My assignment pros are teeing off early tomorrow...so I better get figuring fast...I'm thinking to just have the camera cavity cover and the lens dust cover in my pocket (no lint in there right? ROFL)...the 135 and the 1.4 and the 85/1.8 in my fanny pak along with trhe extra battery and CF Cards...It seemed like such a great idea to have the 10D...#%$#&%
