1d too good...still number one, but for those close in shots around the greens, tees, and practice tee when the 300 is too much mm...that's where the 10d come in...plus i can include the sky with the 10d at say f 14 and not have to clone out 40 spots...lol

I posted a link to your thread on dpreview... other tried it and said it worked for them too !! They are elated... You are a hero!
Tony Bonanno
Actually Tony I got the idea from a DPR thread...a guy named DR M I think...he did it and thought it was just a Customs functions screwup on his part to begin with...it's in the middle of a bunch of mindless and boring replys so it's easy to overlook and he actually doesn't have a clue he stumbled onto a solution for the problem.. I'll post over there and thank him.
Oh...I'm sure...heck, the detail is amazing now and it was really poor before I did this...I like the detail much better than the 1D to be quite honest...I believe it rivals the 1Ds now...not in resolution, but I can see the detail has incredible possibilities for my work.
As things went, my absolute best Tiger Woods shot was with the 10D...not detailed enough for a magazine cover but a nice print...wish I had cleared everything before I took that shot as with this added detail I'd have made a few large dollars..sigh...ROFL
As it is I have only the 1D shots of Tiger that are really worthwhile. Sold a few of those.

LM - what you are describing is essentially the same thing as "rebooting" a computer when it has a malfunction - AND that is the first thing any IS manager will tell you to try ! Good work.
By the way, a digital camera IS exactly a computer - one with a lens and chip attached to it. Everything else is the computer - and that's why Nikon is going down the drain - they are not keeping up - this type of software gets better on a geometric curve (and a competitor cant steal it because you cant get at it - want to bet a "firmware" upgrade doesn't depend on hidden decryption inside the chip? HaHa). Some of the biggest software companies went under because they did not keep up, and then could not catch up - like WordPerfect and Lotus, for example...
What Nikon is doing can easily be fatal just because a digital camera is a computer, indeed. Best regards bill w.
Nice idea Larry... post a message and thank him. I gave all the credit to you in my posts
I just did a reset myself even though I didn't have the problem.. but I noticed that the images practically LEAP into Breezebrowser now (I hadn't noticed that before). Focus is right on (but I think it was before too). Anyway, this is great news... I'm now wishing I had done this before sending my other 10D body back due to a noisy sensor at long exposures... who knows, that might have simply been a CPU issue also Anyway, my replacement body is suppose to be here Monday.. if it soft focuses, I'll know what to do I think this new DIGIC chip is more than marketing hype. Well, its getting past my bed time... Leaving in a couple of days for a job in NYC.. have a bunch to do to get ready, better catch up on my rest ..
This is nonpolitical - but I notice our servicemen are using a lot of computer stuff now - I can just see some poor guy being shot at and his computer giving him one of the patented Microsoft gobbledegook error messages ... or saying "you have an error here...do you want to notify Microsoft?" Or freezing, or rebooting itself - the possibilities are endless....

I agree...I was doing some motor racing pics last Summer with my 1D and it was 120 to 124 degrees at trackside...it fried the 1D...they replaced the motherboard and the sensor, no problem......that's when I discovered it was just a CPU...
BTW, this 10D offers up some fantastic detail...so Canon wasn't steering anyone wrong when they mentioned that in their promo for this cam...but, all of my previous pics were pretty but soft...then the reboot...Bam...perfection...ROFL...I'm like a kid with a new toy now...can't wait for morning to come to shoot some real pictures... I've nailed everything in my office tonight...

I tried this as well. I've been getting soft images from my 10D + 50 f/1.8 II.
It didn't solve the problem, but I believe it is a lens issue (that may be my fault for getting Gatorade on the lens ). I purchased a 50 f/1.8 Mk. 1 from one of our forum members, and I intend to do a side by side comparison of the results I get from the two lenses.
On a side note, my 70-200 f/4 produces super sharp results and focus is right on while it was quite off (front focusing) on the 50 f/1.8 II intermittently.

wonder how much it would cost to get the 50 fixed?
well, at least the camera is in good shape...that spill was a pain in the neck for you for sure joe.

Well, it was more a pain in the wallet. The good news is that I was suddenly justified in buying a LowePro MiniTrekker backpack to replace my old carry bag that got flooded The flash was a PITA to clean out, but it still works well except for the locking ring being a bit sticky.
The 50 1.8 got a good dose too, but not on the optics or anything. The MF/AF switch is gummed up pretty well though. It doesn't seem to have a problem with AF (it AFs freely), but it's possible that something got knocked out of whack. Not too hard to do with this lens
The cost of shipment to Canon and getting it looked at and repaired probably aren't even worth it considering you can get a new one for $70 shipped, so I opted to take advantage of the oppertunity to get the Mk. 1 version for a little more. We'll see how that works next week
PS- Camera was on my neck at the time, thank goodness! My D30 is now in someone else's hands, but I like to believe it is making him as happy as it made for over the last year and a half.

Clear the custom setting and camera settings on your main LCD menu...The camera works perfectly now...at least it does for me...the files convert faster also.
I would think the first firmware update will have this fix included. Did you report this to Canon? Very sharp picture.

Well, I just tried it last night Dale...I'm betting they are doing this is at canon repair as the focus adjustment ROFL...don't they wish getting rid of 1D and 1Ds color noise when you try to show detail in the shadows was as easy?

Larry or Tony,
The faster file load into breezebrowser has me puzzled. If you copy "pre-fix" files into an empty directory, and do the same with the new files do you really see a speed difference?
Larry, and group;
I thought my 10D was fine, but decided to do the reset anyway. It certainly made a difference. The focus, while on before, seems to be be a bit faster after the reset.
The files also seem to have a bit more "umph" when brought into PS with no sharpening or smoothing.
Some shots of our cats at ISO 3200 also seem to have less noise than earlier 3200 shots. (I have not gone back and done a comparison so may just be uphoria mumbling.)
One thing I did notice, the custom settings, name, and image ID number settings do not reset. There is a separate menu option for resetting the custom functions, my guess is that the name can only be changed via the USB cable and remote software.
