p.7 #1 · Only 6 F1 cars running at Indy?

strikeback03: I will agree with you 1 million times on how you feel. I never wanted to suggest that a race with any of those options FIA suggested would have been a good thing. And I have no problem admitting that messing up the fans is a bad thing. I don't think the matter was to give Ferrari 18 points; I truly believe that if they would have raced with say the several stops to change the tires, they might have had even the possibility of winning, had Ferrari encountered some technical difficulty or some tough driver along the race.
And under those conditions, although equality wouldn't have been actually respected, I feel that the solution would have been extremely close to the regulations, if not even completely in, therefore, I would have truly accepted the "come what may" unconditionally.
More than religiously holding those rules, I am a bit of a "realist" or "fatalist" (I am not even sure this term exists): what I mean is that when there is a situation like this, if the honest solutions are ugly, you still have to accept them, because they are the only ones available.
I might have mentioned before that 22 years ago, for completely different reasons, F1 had a bad day like last week at Indy. Funny enough, that was my first F1 race live ever! I was 18 and I had a spot on the stands on the outside of the "variante alta" at the Imola circuit, that hosted the Italian GP for that year. We knew there were going to be only a few cars and we were not happy with that. But I will tell you this: when the cars came out for the warm up, we heard them from afar, then closer, while they were climbing from the "tosa" and finally we saw Jilles Villeneuve Ferrari taking the variante and screaming right by us. The colours, the smells, the people and the sun are still so vividly impressed in my memory that every time I think about it, I get goose bumps. Certainly one of my most incredible experiences ever.
And there were only 2 Renaults, 2 Ferraris, 2 Osellas and -i think- 2 other cars?
As far as the race goes, it wasn't much of a race, after a very short and not very convincing resistance, the Renaults gave up and from there on it was Gilles and Didier until the finishing line. One of the Osellas didn't even start with the rest of the group.
I was sold, more than I have ever been for anything else.
Fans don't just like the show, there is more to it than having some drama.
However, I guess things are different now. Perhaps, they should have thought of this possibility while they were stipulating the rules for this year (or for the last few years, really). I wonder why nobody suggested that they all use Bridgestone tires for the race...
In any case, that's that. A shame, but one bad moment in 22 years of incredible emotions.
As far as the FIA-F1 relationships, we could write a book. If they didn't need each other, there would not be one or the other. As far as the split goes, it is a very bad thing and it is a possibility that I would regard with fear. Yes, things need to be worked out, but this particular event had too many connotations, issues and problems for it to be solved in 1 hour. I still believe the bottom line is the one I mentioned before: Michelin did not want to lose their face, while the teams decided to show FIA that they can hurt them in some ways.
But those teams were disregarding the fans more than FIA was, that's what I am thinking.

would probably be unsafe for the drivers to try and race on a tire they had never been on before. and that is assuming that bridgestone even had enough tires manufactured to outfit the whole field for an entire race.

too bad it didn't rain. everyone could go to their rain tires and avoid the whole problem.

one more reason I don't like racing anymore. To many rules.

Dirt track racing is still fun to watch though, Well... maybe not top class, but at least the "saturday night" local dirt track racing is still good.
