A little more boost towards this little one. I already have this range covered on my 1DmkII + 16-35L f/2.8 combo, but am REALLY considering purchasing this lens because of what it produced with my 20D (leaving my 1DmkII open to tele-end for multi-body shooting). It is truly a nice surprise from the Tokina production line... more competition is always a good thing for consumers. And oh yeah, same sharpness and contrast as my expensive 16-35L f/2.8 on a 20D.

I've heard that at 12mm on a 20D the corners show? So a little crop is needed but it's not too bad? have others found this to be true as well?

Not unless you have a "thicker" filter attached. Without any filter, I saw no vingette.

This lens does look promising, one more to add to the list of wide-angle possibilities.

Oh, and Kawter that picture with the birds is awesome!

Is the contrast similar to the 17-40?

Gary, I have a hoya pro1 filter fitted and usually shoot at 12mm without the corners showing or any signs of vignetting.

Sounds and looks good!
I had the 16-35L and finally gave up on that after getting a couple less then stellar examples, so my "plan" is to pick up two lenses from the refund for the 16-35L unfortuantely the funds are tied up inside Amex card, as they will refund to the card and I already paid the bill ! So much for being ahead of schedule for payments, hate to be late!

I had thought to get the 17-40 but now I may just go with the Tokina 12-24 and then for a little longer lens, the Canon 200L 2.8, the combined price of those two about equal that 16-35L, so right now I can't really look over the forsale threads since I have to use the card to get things bought. The Tokina isn't showing up anywhere right now, I called Canoga and he said they have some on order and expect them soon, so I might put the order through them, heard good things about them too.
Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback and those shots look great, I do like that neat shot with the birds, even though it's with the 10-22, but that's up there a bit plus I held one when I was in Scotland at a Jessup's store, I was quite suprised at the lightness of the lens, almost thought it was a display model with no glass in it! Should have slipped it onto my camera and taken a few shots but didn't, I am also amazed at how nice the images look from it too....

Someone had asked for an image with the 1D MkII and the new Tokina 12-24mm. Here is shot at 12mm showing the frame around the image from a 1.3X Sensor. I didn't do one with the 1Ds but imagine the frame would just be wider all around.

The lens is definitely designed for the 1.5X Nikon and the 1.6X Canon sensor sizes. I just got this in so I haven't really had time to shoot much in the daytime.
I will include one image taken about 5:30 PM with the 20D as 2nd photo.

Thought this would be interesting to see.

hersh - that's quite cool. thank you. so...properly cropped...i suppose that's something like a 7 effective megapixel shot at a FOV of 18mm instead of an 8 megapixel at 19.2...

nothing you'd want to *work* on, but interesting nonetheless.

Grant, I recognize that hall I just got the 10-22. It would be interesting to see how they compared when we meet up again.

Hi Carson, Yeah, that hall is great for showing any distortion with the superwides. I think it was at either f8 or 11 can't remember without looking at the exif. I will have more of a chance to try it out over the weekend. Have you tried the 10-22 out yet?

Yes john, I think I will just use it with the 20D and not try to add any extra work. May go ahead and try one with the 1Ds though just to see what the framing looks like with the 11 mp.

I have a 17-40 and the Tokina and I really like both of them. The Tokina distorts a lot easier if you angle it but boy does it cover the territory.I'm going to love doing interiors with it.I'm keeping both...both have a niche yet the 17-40 will be used in more situations than the Tokina.

I shoot wedding groups with the 17-40. I will use the Tokina when I need to get a really wide look or when I'm in very close quarters. The Tokina is still a Rookie in my lens lineup and I need to shoot more with it to gain confidence with it. Initial reactions are very good however. It may be more prone to flare outside too but I really haven't done much outdoor work with it yet.
