eric, your posted images were really nice, and your fotoblog was well worth the visit. you do some excellent work. do you do a lot of postprocessing? anyway, good luck with the lens decision, and thanks for sharing.

Someone had asked for an image with the 1D MkII and the new Tokina 12-24mm. Here is shot at 12mm showing the frame around the image from a 1.3X Sensor. I didn't do one with the 1Ds but imagine the frame would just be wider all around.
The lens is definitely designed for the 1.5X Nikon and the 1.6X Canon sensor sizes. I just got this in so I haven't really had time to shoot much in the daytime.
I will include one image taken about 5:30 PM with the 20D as 2nd photo.
I just placed my order for one. I've been watching for somebody to actually have it in stock without any luck. I'm anxious to see what it's like shooting this wide.

No....I didn't buy a thin filter and I get no vignetting.
RANT MODE: On
Because of the digitally optomized lens' narrowed angle of acceptance and/or the APS-C sensor's 1.6x crop factor. Smaller sensors and lenses designed specifically for them have their advantages. I thought initially at the start of the digital revolution that APS-C, and, now Olympus 4/3 system sensors were temporary "kludges" until widely available full frame sensors became an economical reality. Now, I'm no longer so certain. Contemplate the currently purely theoretical prospect of a 20 megapixel APS-C sensor, 30 gigabytes of on-camera RAM, and DiG!C III or IV in-camera processing. Now, mentally project 2 1/2 - 3 years from now. Freaky, scarry thought, huh? They'll be exhorbitant initially, but as manufacturing glitches are sorted out, Moore's Law will prevail as usual.

why is the "image circle" rectangular?
Ted, I don't really know why it is rectangular. I did a shot with the 1Ds (11mp) too and it comes out with a little more frame but is rounded on two sides.
Well, I recieved mine this past Thursday. Adorama shipped it as soon as it arrived their store. Thanks Adorama! I had a great time the day after I got it, up at Lemoore. Even did some portrait shots. Incredible!
Between the solid reviews it's been getting and the people who have it in this thread and are pleased with it I decided it was the lens for me.
I ordered it from http://www.tristatecamera.com/ I called and confirmed and they have them in stock, should be here by the end of the week, I can't wait.
Ok guys/gals we do need more images I'm gonna be a waitin' on my lens for a while and could use some more shots to view,
How about those portrait shots?
Man I hate to wait

bumpity bump bump bump...I may have made a mistake going again with Adorama as they haven't shipped the one lens that is in stock, would have thought it would have been sent out by today? And no idea on when the 12-24 will be in stock, hope it's soon, before May 15th, would like to take it on a trip!
So far I like mine but don't really have any "great shots" to share. I tried putting it on AI Servo, F8, and holding it low to the ground while the 3 year old was playing to see what I could come up with. Here's tis.....
