I mean, if Nikon wanted to be bold, they could. Especially after a lackluster year, meanwhile Sony and Canon kicked out like 2-3 bodies + lenses this year. We got a lens and firmware update development announcement

100% I believe it will be a new sensor - 45 mp stacked.

20-30 fps blackout free
No shutter

Now what I would really love is if the grip allows the bigger z9 batteries. They are so much better than those little things a guy has to change every hour or two.

Man, have you used Sony cameras like A1II. Then you'd say Nikon batteries (at least my experience with Z8) last for ever
To be fair, with 30fps and PreCapture Sony shoot lot more images

I've dabbled with mirrorless (A1, Z8), but I just haven't found one that's better than my DSLRs in the field. Too many teething problems and annoyances. I don't really want to have to pack 4 batteries when my D4's and D500 last more than a day on one en-el18.

Now is the AF is cool. But I'm hoping the Z70 will be advanced enough to mitigate such annoyances. If not it'll be a z8ii.

Hopefully this'll be my future second camera, with the Z9 but just slightly behind it. :-)

When has Nikon ever been bold? When is the last time they ever really put out a body that pushed technological boundaries? My impression has always been that Nikon produces wonderful glass, reasonably good UI, and consistently good performance that if not always class leading is at least class matching.

The ZR seem somewhat radical but I suspect that’s because it is infused with some Red DNA.

Assume you are right and we get 45mp sensor. How would be the noise performance? At least 2 stops behind Z8/9 sensor?

Nikon could have the Z70 be the first Expeed 8 camera. Especially if Expeed 8 is already done and there is another reason why the Z9II is delayed. It could also allow Nikon to test changes on a lower model if there are major changes coming to Expeed 8. If the Z9II is buggy at what's expected to be a 6k+ camera, people will not be happy. If a 2k crop sensor camera is buggy, people will be much more forgiving.

Personally, it will come down to whether the Z70 will have pre capture raw, a fast enough readout speed for pre capture raw to make sense, and more MP than a DX crop on my Z8. I used the D500 for years for wildlife photos. At the time, it made sense for basically the same reasons above, faster FPS, better AF, and more MP for cropping. Since the D850 we really haven't had a reason to use a crop sensor camera for wildlife with Nikon, but for the right specs, I would consider doing it again.

I would say it will be the same considering every new generation gets better at noise. No one thought the 45 mp sensor in the D850 would be good noise-wise and it's the best DSLR of all time.

I expect a Z8/Z9s next year with a new processor and higher FPS. I believe the Z70 with have the new processor.

Nikon would never hear the end of it if they finally released the D500 successor and it was the last camera of its generation.

The actual truth is that most people that would buy that Expeed 7 DX Z9 would never actually use it to its limits, and it would still get you great pics regardless, just as the Z8 and Z9 would. There's a chance that a lower megapixel sensor would actually improve AF performance and reduce the already very low EVF latency thanks to less data pushing through the video feed.

I was annoyed with battery life when I moved to mirrorless too. But then realized mirrorless does lot more stuff compared to DSLR. EVF, More use of LCD, FPS and number of images, Subject recognition AI etc are some of them

I'm sure Nikon can and they will eventually improve the battery with or without form factor change. If they change the form factor many existing customers will be pissed like Sony customers with A7RVI battery.

If only Nikon offered a flagship that had a real battery for those that require it.

If only the next step down had dual USB so one could be dedicated to power delivery.

If only.

I'm an old dog. I've been making pictures with Nikon SLRs since the N90 days. Yes mirrorless is really awesome but is it holding me back that I don't shoot it? No. And DSLR stuff is selling for pennies. I got a brand new D4 for $300.

That said I would be interested in a Nikon crop body mirrorless to add to my gear. But I don't think I'd ever sell my DSLR gear.

Z9/Z8, Z6III, Zr. Speed, features, and value that the competition couldn't and still can't match. Their lenses also fit the bill. The $2199 Zr matched, or bested most of what the $3998 Sony FX3 was doing. The $5496 Z9 matched, or bested most of what the $6499 Sony A1. The $2499 Z6III matched, or bested most of what the A7 or R6 II offered. That's bold. Packing these cameras with all those features and undercutting the competition's price is bold. Nikon could have matched the price, but they chose to price it well under

Typically around 1 stop difference between equivalent FF and APSC sensors I think.

Nikon is the clear leader in mirrorless lenses. Sony is trying to catch up.

It's funny how many times people on this forum doubt Nikon. According to the geniuses here, the Z9 was going to have a shutter and was absolutely not going to have a new sensor.

I expect the Z70 to be top class and less $$ than the competition.

To guarantee the Z70 comes out even sooner, just buy the Z50II Andre . Good to see you in these parts, again.

Ha ha, for sure. Same thing happened to me with my D7200 and the D500 came out soon after.

It has been a long time ... thanks for the welcome back.

That's not bad. Instead of 600 TC, 400 TC should give same field of view and same noice performance for less weight and price. I really want a lens with built-in TC. Not sure if Nikon will ever add TC to cheaper lenses like 400 4.5..
