Very curious to see how the 600 compares to 300GM+TC. And the 400 with 1.4x. The 300 GM I consider to be 3 lenses in one though, so I don't really see it being a direct competitor given the versatility.

I'm revising my approach towards the new 600GM f6.3, I will buy one.
I am not sure I will love the lens as I do the 600/4 GM, but its weight does make it an option to replace my binoculars on hikes or when cycling without the deliberate intention of photographing birds and wildlife.
On these trips I have run across birds of prey sitting 30yds away from me, or large groups of spoonbills suddenly gathering to feed on a patch of sea bottom falling dry or juvenile Purple Herons meeting to start migration etc. I have enjoyed such moments tremendously through the binoculars, but always felt a bit of a sting not having my camera with me.
At 2kg on the A1, the new 600mm lens would fit in a bag and hardly be noticed, and could serve as a sort of binocular that also takes images if wanted.
I was hoping one of them would be a 600 f5.6. I love my 300 GM+2X TC combo. I know the difference is only 1//3 of a stop. But that translates into slightly lower ISO and slightly better bokek. I will take my time to evaluate this one. It better not have a 4 meter MFD like the Nikon 600 PF.. The 300 GM is great in that regard.

I didn't forget the "A1 II killer" comment a few months ago
I am convinced there's a global conspiracy against 28mm lenses, historically one of the three foundational focal lenghts. Manufacturers are going nuts offering telescopes, microscopes, and even peepholes for their mounts. Anything that light goes through regardless of usefulness, anything but a 28mm lens.
It's valid for users bought A1II for resolution, not for actual use cases like action/sports. Same with 300mm lens. There's no replacement for 2.8 aperture for sports especially indoor ones. Actually I'm one of them bought 300 to use with 1.4x since there was no light weight 400mm for Sony. I may replace it too. I'm sure 300's value will remain, even though price may go down little bit. No regrets though

Funny actually as I was recently testing a lens for someone and the comment when they saw the comparison below was "did I buy the wrong camera"
- at first I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about
- suddenly the lens issue seemed quite insignificant compared to the gains that would be possible with a different camera
No regrets buying the 300, we can't predict the future haha. And yea i'm sure 300 will retain value. Depends on if the 600 6.3 is better than the 300+2x TC and if so, how much better? And how will 600 6.3 handle a 1.4x TC. If it outperforms the 300+2x TC it'll be worth getting for me, low light be damned i'll just learn to live with 6.3 since i won't keep both lenses. I still regret selling 600f4, but maybe not so much anymore haha? I've gone out way more times looking at birds in the last year, vs with 600f4.
This is disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing that 400 f4.5 gm and selling off my 70-200 GM and just throwing a tc on to the 100 macro gm. The waiting continues it seems.
They announced the 8-14 fisheye but not a peep about the 400/600.
No update from SAR. Not even an article about the 8-14 announcement yet. He must be scrambling to find out why he was wrong.
He mentioned in his youtube channel that he's away for few hours and gave the site responsibility to someone else.

True. Same with prices. Since Fuji just announced 400mm with same price and weight as Nikon's I wasn't really sure about half LB saving. Generally similar lens from all manufacturers in same generation have same weight. Not giving up the hope though.
