Very curious to see how the 600 compares to 300GM+TC. And the 400 with 1.4x. The 300 GM I consider to be 3 lenses in one though, so I don't really see it being a direct competitor given the versatility.

I'm revising my approach towards the new 600GM f6.3, I will buy one.
I am not sure I will love the lens as I do the 600/4 GM, but its weight does make it an option to replace my binoculars on hikes or when cycling without the deliberate intention of photographing birds and wildlife.
On these trips I have run across birds of prey sitting 30yds away from me, or large groups of spoonbills suddenly gathering to feed on a patch of sea bottom falling dry or juvenile Purple Herons meeting to start migration etc. I have enjoyed such moments tremendously through the binoculars, but always felt a bit of a sting not having my camera with me.
At 2kg on the A1, the new 600mm lens would fit in a bag and hardly be noticed, and could serve as a sort of binocular that also takes images if wanted.
I was hoping one of them would be a 600 f5.6. I love my 300 GM+2X TC combo. I know the difference is only 1//3 of a stop. But that translates into slightly lower ISO and slightly better bokek. I will take my time to evaluate this one. It better not have a 4 meter MFD like the Nikon 600 PF.. The 300 GM is great in that regard.

I am convinced there's a global conspiracy against 28mm lenses, historically one of the three foundational focal lenghts. Manufacturers are going nuts offering telescopes, microscopes, and even peepholes for their mounts. Anything that light goes through regardless of usefulness, anything but a 28mm lens.
. The 300 GM is great in that regard.
