p.1 #1 · M-mount won’t lock into place

Those of you understand the mechanics of rangefinders I have a question. I have purchased a second Ikon. I noticed that it will not lock my CV 28/1.5 into place.

It will mount the lens and I can turn it all the way over, but the last millimeter or two it simply will not lock. The frame lines and focus are engaged.

Upon inspection of the mount, I see 4 pins and on my m-body’s throat and I see 4 blades on my lenses that fit into those groves. I see that one of the pins is not in the grove (see the 2nd photo). The other 3 pins in that camera are tucked into the grove. My other Ikon, which mounts and locks my 28/1.5 without issue looks like this with the pin tucked into (see 1st photo).

Is the unengaged pin on the new Ikon hindering the lens from locking?

I think the problem is the tension spring has come loose from its anchor on one side. Also, is that a dead spider in the new mount?

Dead spider!

Yes, the spring came out. You'll need to place it back like in your image 1.

Is it difficult to get back in? Have a link or explainer on how to do it?

The camera is actually in pretty good shape—but lol on the spider indeed.

If I remember correctly, it's only screwed down on one side, so you should be able to rotate it enough to slip it back under its anchor. Use tweezers and try not to crease it while bending.

I'd follow @freaklikeme's instructions. I have no experience on how to put this back but it's definitely something you must do.

So Leica has a built-in defence system against spiders?

I have noted the same type of issue with third party lenses especially M4-2s, with two them even after both CLAed by the best people, still have issues of locking some third party lenses, although every Leica lens from 1950s build to present easily lock. It is not uniform for instance a few LLL are difficult to lock while others lock easily, so isn't simply the make of the mount, the Funleader 45/2 locks on some and not others, and some Voigtlander can be fussy to lock. I have noted the same using a Voigtlander Bessa seems to lock Voigtlander lenses well enough, but can be fussy on others. With quite a few film cameras there are some lenses I will not use on some cameras out concern of dropping the lens off at the wrong moment. Among the Leicas my two M4-2s are the most fussy about not locking some lenses, M3s, M4s and MPs are often but not always much better. I always test a lens on the camera of the day, so there are no surprises when I am out or worse, damage. I have tested perhaps 30+ different lenses on cameras and there are issues, with the M4-2 being the worst offender.
