I just tested it on the A7RVI and no issues autofocusing and/or releasing shutter. Connected right away when pairing, and reconnected right away after turning camera and remote on and off again. Ross, I’ll look int this myself later, but have you heard of anyone putting a 90 degree angle plug on a USB-C remote release? That would help with the gith confines of the cable connections I suspect.The one I have is terminated at 90 degrees. I have not used it with an L plate yet.

It could be that a straight USB-C connection works best, if the Sony side door to the connectors can be left open and the cable plugged straight in through the side opening of the L component, while the L bracket remains tucked up against the side of the body instead of having to be pulled out.

I’m not a fan of wired remotes for many of the reasons you and Dan are discussing. They seem clunky, get in the way, and put unnecessary wear and tear on the port. I ordered from Amazon (although a "sold by Smallrig") on the 20th. It wasn't in stock for immediate shipping but IIRC it shipped on the anticipated date. I think it picked up a day in shipping, too.

I've had Smallrig on my A6700 and A6400, the round full width grips and used to that. My A7Riv L bracket is a partial width Sunway. The first tries with new one seems different from both. Jury is out, may take some more time to be sure I like it.

I went ahead and picked up the Smallrig baseplate from their Amazon listing and it arrived yesterday. Thankfully the ridge at the bottom does not bother my grip (I can’t feel it) and the baseplate enhances the comfort and security of my grip on the A7R6 just as it did on my previous A7RV.
Tomorrow the full L-plate from Leophoto arrives and I’ll see which I like better. For the most part I’ve come to prefer not having the L side since I don’t make that many tripod verticals and when I do my main landscape lens has a tripod collar built in for fast/easy rotation.

I also picked up a smallrig plate from amazon, thinking I’d try it out and return if I didn’t like that bottom ridge. However, I don’t feel the ridge at all during use and visually it doesn’t bother me, so this is a win.

I’m interested in how the Leofoto L,plate works. I’ve used the 3 Legged thing Arnie plate that I got for my A7riv with the A7rvi. It works, but opening the side connectors is tight. It also seems to interfere a little with the hinged back panel, although that may just be my issue getting used to it.

My SmallRig plate arrived on Friday after having ordered directly from them right when pre-orders went live, so gives you a sense of the delay. As others have said, I don't mind the ridge. It feels comfortable in the hand.
I also ordered the L-Bracket off of AliExpress and it has entered the US from China and is with USPS, so it might come this week. They are not officially selling it in US stores (I confirmed directly with SmallRig), sounds like some kind of regulatory or patent issue perhaps, but hopefully this AliExpress order arrives. The Leofoto was not available when I ordered, but that looks like a good alternative.
