p.1 #7FYI: Leofoto SF-06 Lens Foot Replacement for Sony FE 4.5/100-400 GM
I have replaced lens feet on a few lenses in the past. Reasons included:
- a large, awkward design of the OEM foot
- a less-than-ideal mounting system for the OEM foot
Not being familiar with this lens and its foot, can someone tell me what the issue is with the OEM foot on the 100-400 lens, along with what advantages the third-party feet are offering?

The Sony foot is not compatible with any quick-release system, so it requires the addition of an extra plate to make it useable the tripod mounting systems many of us use.

if you use lens foot replacement in the past already then the concept/philosophy is the same. You already answer your own question.

OK, it seems like some people now expect that lens foot itself to have the dovetails for the Arca-Swiss mount. That’s a new development — I’ve always just purchased a plate for that on other lenses.
I can see the potential plus of dovetailing the foot, and I wish OEMs did that. But once you have the non-dovetailed foot, it seems like just using the plate works pretty well… and probably costs less.
The foot size issue is an interesting one. I have a large lens from another manufacturer with an unusually short foot, but once i added the usual bracket it worked just fine.

Careful with those quotes! The “thanks” you attributed to me came from someone replying to my earlier post, not from me. (No harm done here, but that’s not always the case.)

Mine just arrived, no issues with installation, haven't tested it for tripod shooting yet, but the length of it is nice vs. the stock foot for being able to use it as a handle.

The rubber pad, what were they thinking NOT putting one on the SF-03 foot which fits GM400 and 600? It's got a bulge there, but smooth metal is no substitute for rubber for grip.

I'm surprised they haven't made an updated version of the SF-03 with the rubber pad instead of the metal bulge.
That said, the better foot for the 400/600 is the Kirk LP-67 as it is much lower profile. I have Leofoto (which are usually Kirk clones) for most of my lenses but not for the 400/600.

I listed the Kirk foot for 600 GM for sale in March, nobody has even asked.. I will receive the Leofoto foot for the 100-400 today.

Does the dovetail on the LP-67 go right to the back? ie, the small section behind the cut out.
I have looked at photos but can't see.

One interesting new feature on the Leofoto SF-06 is the stops on the bottom. Rather than small hex screws as used on most lens feet previously, these are little spring loaded pins that look to be permanently mounted. Looks like a great solution that I have never seen before. With my A1ii and grip, when I put the lens on a table with the foot down, the pins compress and the whole setup does not wobble as it would with hex screws. Well done!
