One interesting new feature on the Leofoto SF-06 is the stops on the bottom. Rather than small hex screws as used on most lens feet previously, these are little spring loaded pins that look to be permanently mounted. Looks like a great solution that I have never seen before. With my A1ii and grip, when I put the lens on a table with the foot down, the pins compress and the whole setup does not wobble as it would with hex screws. Well done!
Interesting about the spring loaded stops. I have the Leofoto SGF-03 for the Sigma 300-600. It still has the traditional hex screws. The spring loaded pins must be a recent feature!

I have not seen that on any previous Sony lens foot from Leofoto. The SF-04 for the 400-800mm does not have it. Looking through their web site I don't see it on any other lens foot they sell. Lucky to get it with the foot for the 100-400. Nice innovation.

I noticed it's now impossible for me to palm the foot and twist the zoom with the Leofoto onboard. I have small hands so it wasn't that great zooming that way with the stock foot anyhow. I'm used to using the foot more as a carrying handle and on the monopod so it's not a huge deal.

That foot seems taller than it needs to be and not removable without a driver. What was wrong with the 200-600 or 100-400/5.6 style foot that could easily be removed and you buy an A-S replacement?

It certainly does position your hand a bit further off the zoom ring.
I can still do it but I need to get used to the new hand position. I do feel it a little better for resting back and using the MF ring than the stock foot.
For me the biggest reason to get this foot is the QD socket. I never plan on mounting this on support. I do like the longer foot when using it as a handle. But as you point out it is making it more difficult to rest the foot in the palm and turn the zoom ring. I know many don't shoot that way (often turning the foot up and grabbing the barrel directly but I've always shot with foot resting in my palm and prefer that way).
This is why I mentioned earlier about the Kirk LP-67 for the 400/600GM as it is very low profile and allows easy use of the MF ring while in the hand.
If another company (Kirk or Hejnar) come out with a lower profile foot I may switch to that. But at least for now this gives me my QD socket.

I wish they had gone for the 200-600 attachment as the Wimberly foot for that attachment is one of the best feet I've ever used. That would have been a simple purchase. The 200-600 is similar weight so don't think it was a weight reason.
It was odd they went for a totally new bolt pattern compared to the 400-800 and the 400/600 when they decided to do 4 screws.

I just went and checked out what Kirk and Hejnar had in the works.
Kirk is doing what they did for the 400-800. Basically making a new base that is screwed into the new bolt pattern and then repurposing the 200-600 quick release foot.
Hejnar doesn't provide the height of the foot but it is shorter (116mm) than the Leofoto (133mm) and Kirk (127mm).
Kirk says height is 34mm. Leofoto says 34mm. Hejnar looks like it may be a bit shorter in height but TBD. Also not sure if the quoted height by Kirk includes the base or just the foot. I think it doesn't include the height of the base as it lists the same height as the 200-600 foot which doesn't need a base.
I think the Kirk is going to sit highest judging from the photos.

I actually prefer the bolt in style as I hardly ever remove the foot. The 200-600 replacement feet always wiggled on me. The foot on the 100-400 f/4.5 is keyed so once bolted in it is not moving. Different preferences for different people. It was very easy to remove the stock one and bolt in the Leofoto foot.

Is it possible that the mechanism to switch from detents to no detents on lens rotation that is in the base for the foot got in the way and forced the new bolt pattern?

I find that it is easier to palm the foot in my hand and turn the zoom ring or focus with the Leofoto foot than the stock one. I think that is because the stock one was too short for me and with the longer foot I can more easily reach the larger diameter portion of the zoom ring. They could have made it a little shorter in height and still had room for ones hands when carrying it by the foot. I wonder if the design height was set so that the camera with grip would sit like shown below. That is an A1ii with grip. It sits very stable and the whole bottom of the foot is flat on the table and the bottom of the grip is almost perfectly flat.
I would think the Kirk solution adds even more stack height with the adapter. Interesting idea, but not what I would be looking for.
If you carry the lens by the foot at all, the grip on the Leofoto is comfortable. Not so sure about the others. That pad on the Leofoto is nice.

I wonder if that kirk adapter plate will work with the 70-200 GM II or 50-150 style foot? That would open up a bunch of possibilities for using after market quick detach units.

It looks like there many options now. I actually have a spare Kirk QR foot for the 200-600, so that would be easy to adapt for starters. I'm still on the fence about the lens itself due to the short focal length but may rent it later in the year.

I can’t say for sure but I don’t think it will as I believe the 200-600 was different than the 70-200/50-150/300GM/(old)100-400. I think those ones are interchangeable.
