It's ok, you don't need to fanboy over material objects. That's what this forum is for, you talk to people, exchange ideas, opinions and get feedback on the questions you asked. I just dropped 2k on everything and still want to give it a go so I'm just looking for peoples experiences with it.

If you read my post you would see that I just got the camera and like I just said I wanted to see if people had the same experience and if it got better over time and with grips or any other add-on.
I find the camera highly modular and ready to adapt any grip I want. Better to be able to extend than to have a "fixed" uncomfortable grip, imo.
There's s plethora of choices in AliExpress if you are inclined in going that route.

The Sony grip is awesome, but it does make the a7cII bigger than a standard a7 body. Lots like the smallrig grip too. There's a cheaper alternative to the Sony on Amazon from the seller Wepoto that has a really good grip extender as well, I've had a couple of them and they are great. One is permanently attached to my a7rv.

+1, these two additions changed the grip from bad to good enough. Thumbgrip especially. For me though, past a certain lens weight (500-600g) the camera grip becomes awful no matter what so I try to stick with relatively lighter lenses.

This alone shows that you have - sorry! - absolutely no clue. You ascribe something to a camera that can't be a property of a digital camera. It could, in principle, be a property of a lens, especially wide open; but absolutely not with the lens you are using.
So, based on this display of cluelessness, I am not convinced that you really know how to correctly hold an A7cII, sorry again.

Trying to understand what the op is wanting to know is starting to feel like an Alice story. If the op wants useful answers, I think it would help if they could be more specific with their concerns. The grip size and did adding an accessory grip help query that was the original post seems to have evaporated and now it’s button placement and image looks.
FTR, I have no dog in this fight. But as I said before, I originally shied away from Sony primarily due to cramped ergos. What I didn’t mention was I also couldn’t wrap my head around their menu UI either. This camera IMO is significantly more usable ergonomically than earlier models, even with my large hands, and the grip and thumb lever I showed the picture of definitely helps further. Moreover, I find the menu UI more intuitive than before. All in all, this makes it a usable, competent tool for me.
But the real confusion now is how anyone can think it’s somehow a specific camera that creates “dreamy and artistic” images? Did I miss something? Seriously folks, I am confused. An Alice episode for sure, please wake me up and enlighten me.

Is logic missing? This is what happens when trolls and negative people get involved. It's not that serious.
Hey, this camera hurts my hands, I want to see if anyone else had this issue and if a grip or anything else has helped. I also gave an opinion of the negative/pros of the camera too.
People then come on and take it literal. On my screen the sony images have that 3d pop, the mix of bokeh,light,darkness, and just like people mention with helios/vintage lenses give a dreamy look to images. I said the same with the 50mm sony lenses having the same trait. I don't quite literally mean I press a button and psychedelic imagery comes out the camera.
Then you have the fan boys and grown men that also are butthurt cause I have an opinion on the negatives of the camera like a reviewer or anyone else would have.
It's like this Sony sub is a mix of trolls,redditors,"UHMM ACKKKTUALLY" type people, fragile ego,and people that can't understand context.
I'm screwed if I ask for help on a situation, I'm srewed if I say something positive about the camera, I'm screwed if I say something negative, I'm scrwed if I have an opinion.
It's why I hate youtube photographers and how so many of them can't understand the difference between memory and hard drive storage and that whole drama about photographers being immune to the power of advertising.
Maybe this is why some of you have so many posts on this forum cause in real life no one wants to be around you guys.
Notice how theres 2 types of people. The people that understand my question and give feedback. And the other people that are super negative that are causing all the stupidity,confusion and drama. Tell the mods to close this thread cause I'm not responding anymore. Theres nothing more annoying than trolls,bullies, and the people that take everything extremely literal.

Okay. First I think you’re being overly sensitive to some of the replies. I also see you literally ignored most of the replies that said the grip and thumb lever helped us. I believe you totally ignoring those and then lamenting about the buttons instead, led to the suggestion for you to just sell the camera, which given your replies was totally logical and reasonable. But instead you appear to be the one that got butthurt.
I further think if you had taken the time to acknowledge the replies that said the grip helped, then said the buttons also bothered you, there would have been logical discussion of about that too instead of the just sell it and buy something else comment. But you didn’t do that; and as a result IMO the just sell comment was 100% justified — I was thinking of agreeing with it but then you got all butthurt over it.
So maybe it’s you that needs to take a breath, reread the entire thread and acknowledge where you deviated from your original train of thought on the thread and helped derail it; and then maybe take some of the responsibility for the direction it went. There are still a few of us interested in helping you, but I’m now wondering why I should bother…. Regardless, good luck with whatever you decide to do. 👍

The ops complaints are what has kept me from buying one to replace an X100F. Nothing frustrates me more than a manufacturer not having a product that is worthy of the price it sells at. I would love to buy an A7CII or A7CR but at the prices they are at it doesn't seem logical when you can have the A7RIV at same price as A7CII and the A7RV at same price of A7CR. They should have dropped the RX1 line and replaced it with a fixed lens A7C line and sold at a lower price. Also I saw niftyfifty's remark the same way as the op.

I still think the main reason this thread went south is the op was so all over the place with their complaints it became difficult to discern what their actual question was or even is. My .02 anyway.
Back to the topic for thread posterity. I like the camera. I live with its shortcomings of marginal EVF, slightly cramped ergos and imperfect button locations because its size, sensor quality and functionality fill my needs. If I couldn’t live with the ergonomics or control layout, I’d sell it in a heartbeat for something larger. But that would mean making the compromise to give up small and lightweight that I choose not to. So I live with the shortcomings because *for me* they’re relatively trivial weighed against the features I want; AND a grip and thumb lever improved the cramped ergos without adding significantly to size or weight.
