p.1 #1Have you seen the white Wood duck?
This duck has been the talk of the town among the bird watchers and nature photographers here in Eastern Queens, NYC for the past few months. I heard it on every outing and it was spotted at either Oakland Lake or Kissena Park as it appeared to be flying between the two lakes and I was always at the other one. Well the other day when I was at Oakland Lake there it was, hanging out with all the other Wood ducks in a location full of trees and bushes in the water. The bank was very muddy so I knelt down getting as low as possible without kneeling. I photographed him for about 30 minutes inorder to get some mostly clean shots that I then cleaned up in post. I hope you enjoy seeing this surprisingly pretty male leucistic Wood duck who was singing a good part of the time I photographed him.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

Thank you Mark,

I would not be surprised if you came back and chose different ones. In any case I'm fond of both 3 and 4.

Thank you Roberta,

It was so nice being in his presence as he was so happy singing in his high pitched Wood duck voice.

because thats what they’re called. the colour is a specific pigmentation, whereas conditions such as leucism are a lack of pigmentation. still rare though.

They may call it silver yet this bird is a light tan. Thank you for the information.

Yes, and If you want one or two in your own pond, you can order them online:

Thank you KD,

I'd say come visit and photograph him yet It's been around for months and I've only seen him once. Then again, we tend to get lucky when we shoot together

I have no idea of it's origin. I think it's illegal to own ducks in NYC. As for the color, well I'm telling you what my eyes saw. Light brown head and light tan body.

Everyone around hear is calling it white. Look at the photos you posted. What color is it?

Do you see silver? I don't. Have you ever seen one?
