p.1 #1 · Why use Flicker to post photos

Along with this site I check in at Photrio. Their meathod of adding photos to a post is very simple. And the images look great. You simply upload a jpeg no larger than 2mb. That simple.

What’s your point? I can upload photos here without using Flickr.

How do you do that? I thought you had to use Fliker.

p.1 #4 · Why use Flicker to post photos

I use Flickr because my presence on Flickr predates my presence on FM. It is my primary image sharing site. I post many more images on Flickr than on FM. Subscribing to FM's Upload and Sell for image hosting would be redundant both in effort and cost.

My use of Flickr became even easier to use when I started using Lightroom a few years ago. Lightroom has a Publish Service in the Library Module and lets me build albums, populate them with images, and then upload them through the LR interface to Flickr. All my image post-processing and upload to Flickr occur right on my desktop. LR does provide the publishing service for a number image-hosting sites in addition to Flickr.

You don't have to use Flickr to add photos to an FM post. It appears that JWPSTL uploads to FM directly via his Upload & Sell membership. But as I understand it, you can embed images in an FM post for any images that be accessed through a URL. It appears that Photrio provides that capability using the provided "Copy Image BB code" text.

I’m not all that computer literate, but doesn’t URL mean I would first have to upload my photo somewhere other than FM forums and provide a link for it to appear on FM?

Again the simplicity of adding a photo to a written comment on Photrio is so easy. Why can’t FM Forums do something like this. Granted I do pay a small fee to Photrio every 6 months or so and maybe this pays for this upload system.

I’ve been a member here for several years and have wanted to post photos, but have not found an easy way to do it.

Post revised to replace FM's hyperlink tool with a basic cut-n-paste text string. Either FM or the browser don't read past the PHP? text when invoking the embedded link.

It isn't easy to find FM's FAQ for uploading images so I've provided a link to it below. The image sizing recommendations are, IMHO, horribly outdated but I don't think they are very stringently enforced. [I noticed that PhoTrio's sizing instructions are very similar.]

REF: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/faqforum.php?Action=Viewfaqforum&id=34

I believe that Item #1 in this FAQ describes the steps it takes to embed an image from your local computer in a post on FM. Please take a look and determine if FM is really any harder to post to than PhoTrio.

After you've determined which site is easier to upload to, and determined which site is more oriented to your target audience you'll be able to decide where to host your photos.

Your link to the instructions does not work for me.

BTW, I like and follow both sites. I’ve just noticed adding photos at Photrio is very easy as long as I can remember how to reduce the size on my Ipad, lol.

Cut-n-paste the above URL in the address bar of a new browser tab. Be sure your cut-n-paste includes all the text including the "Action=Viewfaqforum&id=34"

Still not working. Also did a search “uploading photos” with no results.

I do remember a few years ago a section on uploading but don’t see it now.

It works for me. Be sure you are performing a cut-n-paste of the entire URL text into the address bar of a new browser tab.

Clicking on the hyperlink does not work because it doesn't submit the entire URL.

I found the FAQ using this search string: how to upload photos to fm forum

Obviously FM forums doesn’t like me. I copied your link and pasted on new page=same result-does not find it.
Then I did a search using your words=three word max for search it says.

Thanks for the help.

Not sure if I care any more on posting photos here.

Well, if you weren't able to cut-n-paste the URL in its entirety into a new window's address bar and get to the link, then it wasn't a case of "FM forums doesn’t like me". At that point in time, you wouldn't have in the FM website. You would have been solely in your browser.

Nor have I ever heard of an internet search engine that only allowed 3 words in its search.

However, one last try.

From FM's Upload FAQ:
"Image Upload - Back
1) How to use the Upload & Sell membership to upload images? - Back
To be able to upload an image, you must have an active Upload & Sell membership. For more
information on how to subscribe for this service, click href="https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/upload-sell.php">here.

If you are already a subscriber, here are the steps:
Click on the "New Post" button
and write in your subject and message.
Below the message window there is an option to attach an image followed by a
"Browse..." button.
Click on the browse button. A new window will popup asking you to choose a file to
attach.
Browse through your directory to find the file you wish to attach and click on
Open.
Submit your message and the upload process will begin."

1-So I tried copying your search dialog (the words not the link) and got 0 results again. This time I made a screen shot I can share if wanted.

2-I found the link to memberships. The only mention of posting photos is in regards to buy and sell. Nothing about posting photos in the forums. I have bought from the buy/sell forum but have no interested in selling on it. So I’m not going to pay for that class of membership.

Thanks again.

Thank you, no, Norm. Don't need your screeen shot.

You started out asking one question: Why use Flickr. I answered why I use Flickr.

Through the ensuing discussion, and in your other post, I did my best to disabuse you of your notion that it is harder to post to FM directly, or alternatively, to reference an image already posted to a non-FM site, in an FM forum or thread.

I've provided the information. I don't think I can provide any more.

Either you pay for hosting and B/S here at FM or you link to a file somewhere else. That part is quite easy.
There are many sites for hosting images or you can have your own domain or a subdomian of someone else. What kind of budget do you have?

EBH, thanks for the question. I’m not interested in having a web site nor do I want to post my photos someplace on a regular basis. Once in a while I may want to post a photo in reponse to a thread I am reading.

That is what I like about Photrio as far as posting photos. And I was wondering why this forum does not follow this meathod?

I told you why. You need a membership which is actually called Upload and Sell. Upload gives you the ability to upload pictures to forums including buy and sell which is just another type of forum posting. It's not exactly clear in the description but that's the bottom line. If you want to upload pics to a forum get a membership.

"Upload photos from any device and select frame styles to showcase your images. Participate in assignment contests..."
