Does anyone have thoughts on how this would compare with a 35mm f1.4 Nokton Classic II? Less distortion sounds nice.
I want to pick up a film m later this year and was considering one of these as a more easy carry character vibe lens.
- lovely samples, ftllens, very atmospheric. Are those mostly wide-open?
I have the CV35mm f1.4 MC II. At first glance, I can see that the LLL AA is better corrected while still having that atmospheric touch. Additionally, the Voigtlander MC II is closer to the Steel Rim reissue but withy higher contrast and better flare control.
I am happy to do provide a side by side once I get my LLL lens.

Yes, you can think of the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 Nokton MC II as a kind of re-interpretation of the original Leica 35mm f/1.4 Lux pre-asph, but with a few refinements. The overall rendering style is very similar, but the Voigtlander is better corrected for SA, so it produces less glow wide open.
If you analize the results from my steel rim comparison (which is also based on the 35/1.4 Lux pre-ASPH), just imagine a similar look with reduced glow from the Nokton. That gives you a good idea of how they relate.

Thank you that would be brilliant, my head is spinning trying to picture everything.
I saw Fred's rendering comparison images with the Nokton Classic 35/1.4 and the steelrim re-issue and the former looked a little sharper and a bit more modern and I thought that might have some benefit on film while still keeping some nice character: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1779165/3&year=2022#16091647
Less distortion and no focus shift with the LLL I think from reading reviews. The 35/1.4 v2 nokton focus-shift is much improved over v1 but still has a little at f4. That sounds good to me too... but I'm struggling a bit to picture the differences.

Thank you very much for the link and doing the comparison as well. You rarely get this sort of thing anywhere else.
Might be a bit difficult for me to picture but one day I'll grab some extra strong coffee and get to imagining. Hoping those direct comparison shots will spell it out for me - I'm not in a rush at all, got lots of toys to play with after going nuts last year. Including the 35mm f1.4 AIS for Nikon. It's a bit big but should be fun.
sort of a comparison with the summilux pre-asph:
...which the steelrim re-issue is based on if I read things right..A few adhoc comparisons.
This LLL and the nokton are the two main ones I'm thinking about for a film m, which I'm hoping will last longer than my fm2n(s).
I saw a profile on lightroom for the v1 nokton, though not sure if it does distortion or just vignette, but I didn't see it for v2. I haven't got those profiles to work with jpgs for whatever reason, but when I scan the negatives and get the raw, I can apply it. Though sometimes the list of profiles gets a bit buggy and most are missing.
I want the atmosphere, not too unsharp or nutty, but a little. They both sound like they do a bit of that just can't quite pin it down mentally.

for what it's worth . . . I have the 35 SRR, love it. I admit initially seeing the LLL 11873 images I was intrigued. But then after much research I decided that while the 35 SRR wide open seems to be a bit softer in the center at 1.4 than the LLL, if I stop down the 35 SRR to 1.8, I think I can come closer to approximating the look of the LLL wide open while still retaining the glow around highlights that I'm obsessed with and to my eyes the 35 SRR does better than the LLL.
Also the 35 SRR stopped down to f4 gets plenty sharp through the frame.
Some of certain minor differences between these 2 lenses (such as bokeh balls/swirling background) seem (to me) to be largely unimportant.

I dont want to dump a bunch of photos on Fred's review of another lens, but if you follow this link you will see a few personal samples wide opened of the CV35mm f1.4 MC II. Enjoy. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCFW8B

How are you all buying this lens? dirctly from China? Anyone in europe has bought this lens? how was the shippment hassle.... thanks!
kamerastore, in Finland, has some LLL lenses for sale. Not sure they are any sort of "official importer" for LLL, but maybe you can ask them.
I have bought from LLL in the past, the SP2 a while ago and, more recently, the 1.4x magnifier. I had to pay about 20% tax/VAT upon receiving the parcel. The problem is if you need to send it back (for any reason - replacement/service) - not sure you can claim that 20% back...
Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Does DHL charge extra fees at the time of delivery? I haven't gotten any extra bill from DHL so far. I confirmed delivery through their site.

Yes I am surprised I have not received a bill as well, mine comes today (supposedly) watching and waiting, so I'll see if the driver needs a fee or one comes later as a bill, this has happened before for other purchases, a bill arrives when it is small money (like a few 10s of $) by email later. I think I will give it spin on dig and then try it on film since I have a CLAed M4-2 just returned to me today that needs a test roll.

Curious. I received the bill (via DHL email) while it was in transit from HK to the states.

Mine is scheduled for delivery on Thursday. I too have not received anything from DJL.
Did a quick test of my copy, at 1.4 and near MFD my lens is front focusing about 1 inch in front of my focus point.
I will reach out to David to see if it can be recalibrated.

Are you comfirming front focus by using the range finder first and then checking the back screen?
Im getting a bit head of mine arriving since I shoot on a M11-D.

I just use the RF patch and check my final image. I shoot at an angle down a ruler and also a page of text, and check the fina result.
Gotcha, thank you. That will have to do it since I have no peaking available.

I guess, count yourself lucky.
I just got the bill for $33 duty fees. I guess it's just matter of time.
