Seems interesting. Giving free 3 month trials to Leica users to check it out.

Definitely, but I’ll check it out for free. Since I pay LR monthly if Capture One becomes something I can use instead it may be cheaper in the long run as I believe they sell a permanent license, which Adobe doesn’t do anymore. Most likely I’ll stay with Lightroom but doesn’t hurt to give it a shot

Hmm. Which direction did the money flow, in this deal?

Nice to see the Danes and Germans being good neighbors.

Meaning RedDotForum has to switch from using LR and its Leica-specific presets to Capture One ....

Is this because CaptureOne has developed a tool that hides film scratches?

Seems like a poor proposition to lose the tight integration of the World's most extensive, advanced, and best supported by third party suite of digital creator tools for 3 months of free trial. Let alone disrupt a workflow developed over many years. Plus abandoning thousands of already processed file data stored and backed up in your catalogs, on your server, and in the cloud. It is not just about tomorrow's images when you think about it.

The very low cost of $9 per Month probably represents the best value in software I currently have on my computer after my browser of course.

The Adobe suite has had the best of those types of tools for many years.

But one must start by questioning the wisdom of shooting film in this amazing digital age. Buy expensive film, carry bulky film, frequently change film in the field, protect that film, pay to develop the film, store and organize the negatives, scan the negatives. All of that to get to the same digital set of tools digital cameras produce seamlessly.

Now that I think about it, 3 Months of free trial might make sense to film shooters. Cost and effeciency are not likely high on their priority list. The have a bit of a masocistic tendency to begin with.

I am guessing the money is headed to Leica.

I haven't used C1 for a few years ... but, iirc they allowed for use of the LR catalog and/or to do sessions that didn't use a catalog approach.

I used C1 for sessions for a while, but then got away from it and have been on LR since. I've mentioned before that if you like a given tool, the $$$ of that tool isn't the mark of value, because of its price. The mark of the value of it is how well you get along with it (imo).

I do think that C1 (at least used to) have a superior product in terms of the quality of the files it produced. But, then Adobe "upped its game" shortly thereafter to bridge the gap a bit, such that the workflow of Adobe won the day for me, as C1 just kinda "slipped" into the background for me.

Imo ... it isn't an OMG, this is such a better deal, I gotta switch to save a few $$$. Instead, it's an opportunity to explore a different tool. If you dig on it ... THEN, you can decide to have BOTH C1 and LR, or kick LR to the curb in favor of C1. Personally, I don't see many folks that are vested in LR, kicking it to the curb. But, I did appreciate C1 for what it was.

As mentioned, it's been a few years since I actively used it ... so, I can't speak to what C1 is like today. But, I might take a peek under the hood again sometime. Some folks love the LR catalog approach. Others, not so much. For the latter, C1 might be worth a look.

Interesting that LR has just released native Leica tethering. In their announcements both Leica and C1 are focusing on the tight integration of tethered shooting with C1. This is the reason I looked at C1 in the past. But Leica's own tethered shooting plug in for LR worked ok. The new native LR tethering is working well too. Interesting timing...

I think this may have more to do with Leica’s upcoming cameras than the current lineup.

I can't imagine how that can be. Unless Leica and Phase One are sharing medium format technology somehow. Can you elaborate please.

I recall my M9 included a Lightroom license, which at that time was pre-subscription. So for the low, low price of buying an M body, I got Lightroom 'free'. Point being that this isn't the first time Leica has done this. But back then, free Lightroom was IMO a better deal. And it was the full LR, not restricted to only Leica cameras, like some other collaborations have been.

Nice bit of marketing fluf but I don’t see users jumping ship for 3 months free. Maybe though C1 will finally not take forever to provide profiles for new cameras and lenses like it always has until now. LR has always been faster with lenses profiles.
