By the way, I think B&H Photo is describing the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 Glossy Black incorrectly. They are describing it as a black paint "ASPH" version, but it's actually a different finish from the reissued chrome Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 (pre-ASPH).

what is the version of summilux 35 ? I assume it's the latest one which is FLE 2?
It looks like all the Safari ASPH lenses (28, 35, 50) are based on the latest version with close-focus. Instead of black anodizing, they come in green.

I, too, would scoff at them, but I recently became covetous of the anniversary CV APO-Lanthar 50/3.5 in navy blue, so I feel like I've lost my scoff-card.
Suckers of the world unite! We owe no explanations for the seeming ridiculous choices we make!

So true! I went for the CV 50/3.5 APO in Green...that was my little splurge!

That picture is killing me Fred! I would have bought this in an instant if it was collapsable. The green and silver looks incredible on the Safari and then there is the bonus of using the green hood on the 35/3.5, hard to resist.

Fred, et al,
Okay, this is driving me nuts. According to BH this is the same lens as the Safari, just glossy black. Specs are same and not like the silver reissue of the Version II summilux. (8/5 vs 7/5). Are we certain this is a redo of the recent vii or just a different color color like the safari?
If its a reissue of the vii, i want; it not who cares?
Everywhere I look online it says it has an Aspherical, thereby isn't the pre-asph, no?
Thanks for any light or darkness you guys can shed.

The Leica PR says the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 [is] from the Classic line featuring a glossy black finish. The price is also consistent with the reissue. Its a great lens!

Hi Joe,
I'm pretty sure the glossy black paint on brass released today is the 50/1.4 Lux pre-ASPH version, the same as the recently released silver chrome. So yes, the 7/5 design.

Thanks Fred, I really hope so since I put in a preorder already. Though if not I can return. Liked the silver one but not the minimal focus and length too much.
