Morning I am trying to update my RV but keep getting the msg on my camera that there is no card inserted into slot one or there is no update file in the media card or the file is damaged. Has anyone experienced this in updating? Brand new card formatted but have tried different cards also which also have the same msg. Any ideas?

I have found that my PC will sometimes change the file name [ xxx(2) ] automatically on download. Make sure the file name matches that required.

I'm experiencing corrupted files since update.
I'd love to demonstrate an example, so if someone can offer advice on how to upload an image or two, I'll do just that.

Here are three images, which are screenshots.
One is of the JPG thumbnail which is attached to the raw file which is fine and can be read by camera and computer, the other is of a completely corrupted raw file that won't open in any software and another is of the message in Sony's own Edit software.

If you don't need the functionality of the latest update, I'd advise to refrain from updating just yet so you don't have the unfortunate issues I'm experiencing.

Could you try with another card?

So how do you transfer files?
What type of Card(s)?
Are all files corrupted or just some?

A little tedious to isolate problem, but not hard.
An easy step is to save RAW to 2 cards at once. Are corrupted files corrupted on both cards?
If only 1 card has corrupted files, swap cards between slots.
Copy the files to computer, don't move. That way you can transfer using different methods.

I finally got brave and updated mine via my Android using the Creators app... all went smoothly.

No problems here as yet, but I haven't really wrung it out yet.

More when I know it, no news is good news, and good news will be better news, heh.

OK a little more info, it happens with all three cards I use with the 7RV, Sabrent, Sony and Sandisk brands and in both slots.
Happens randomly.

Sony (Australia) support has been sent the files and they've looking into the issue.

I've reset the device, still happens and about as regularly.

It's inconsistent, today I shot about 200 images and they're all fine.

Yesterday I shot 300-400 images, no issue, formatted the card (in camera after dumping to computer) and another 200 shots of which two were corrupted.

Sony has asked that I send the camera for service at my own cost each way and for the service and that will take 7 days to complete without post each way. I'm not going to do that for now because I prefer to lose the odd file instead of being without the camera, especially over Christmas.

Veeery unlikely that these corrupted files have anything to do with the new firmware.
Perhaps a hardware defect of your A7RV.

A dumb question, but did you grab any new electronics recently that might be emitting an electromagnetic field?

I do IT and run into all kinds of crazy crap... like this one office they got a new Zephyr hills hot/ cold water dispenser plugged in opposite wall of secretary pc...it.was random and hard to trace but I found that every time someone used the hot water tap her pc would reboot from the power spike... put her on a UPS and suggested they move the water thing to another circuit. Another time it was the break room fridge with a compressor going bad throwing spikes. Another time a new secretary kept loosing data on floppy disks, she had them on her desktop stacked on a black box... which I explained to her was a 1980s vintage bulk tape eraser and she prolly ought to toss that. The most common one is in winter when they start putting space heaters under their desks to keep their feet warm. Ugh!!! Or they plug their laser printer into the battery side of their UPS.

So, is there anything new going on in your space that could externally be corrupting cards? Gotta be a single point of failure to effect multiple cards, so either the body or some common source of emmision. Not sure if a messed up battery could cause problems but might try a fresh battery, make sure if you have a video cage rig with a fan that you remove it, or a battery grip, or anything else that might be an external contributor.

Let us know what you find, if anything.
Eric

Sort of, I have just starting using a new flash trigger, it's a little cube shaped Godox branded unit, I can't remember the model number.

I wasn't using it when the corrupted files I uploaded were shot though. Also, the corruption happens outside, inside and on site so it think it would be unlikely?

Hrrrmmm... sorry, I'm probably missing a piece of the puzzle here without rereading the chain of posts. In any event, if you can narrow it down to a single point of failure you will have your answer. Maybe as an experiment buy a fresh tiny cheap SD card and never let it leave the body and see if files corrupt before transferring them... maybe transfer directly to pc via USB cable instead of card reader, see if you can find a way that works consistently or if it really is the body.

Just a reminder, RV and later Sony cameras support USB charging while using the camera.
With a power Bank and USBC cable, you can shoot for a whole day. The cable may affect your grip a bit but generally is fine for me.

With two genuine batteries, I won't buy any more batteries.

That I good to know, but I'm not buying any more generiatric NP-FZ100 batteries with USB ports since getting the BC-ZD1. With a PD power supply or power bank it charges two real sony batteries faster than one basic battery with USB port.

Unfortunately I cannot transfer files from camera to computer, plugging the camera into the computer brings up one folder which contains no files. Not sure if this is Mac issue and perhaps there's no issue on a PC, but I only use Mac with the Sony's.

I'm not a Mac guy, the the googles says "connect the camera with a USB cable, turn it on, and ensure it's in Mass Storage mode via the camera menu; then, find the camera as a drive in Finder, open the DCIM folder for photos or PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIPS for videos, and drag-and-drop files to your Mac. "

This was also a new issue since the update? After your post about the corrupted files I’m holding off on updating.

Anyone know if the firmware update fixed the parasitic battery drain issue? Lithium batteries don’t like draining all the way down so I have two first party batteries that probably lost battery life because of it.

Sony makes some really nice stuff, but customer service, firmware updates and other support issues are really getting to me. I’m too heavily invested now so hoping to see things improve. I was surprised to even see this firmware update, so at least doing one is progress in that area.

No, this has always been an issue with my Mac.
It's one of the many reasons I dislike using Apple products, however we must use these devices for work and I admit the performance of my MacBook Pro is kilometres ahead of any PC laptop I've experienced, the screen is also lovely. Hardware is superb, software is absolutely by far and away inferior.

I think you must be doing something wrong - I copy direct from camera to MacBook Pro all the time and have done so for years and I have never had a problem.

Just make sure you are using a decent cable (thunderbolt 3 or 4) and the transfer will be as fast as a card reader.

Make sure you are selecting the correct drive once the camera is connected to the computer.

I've spoken to apple about it, I've had a tech guy look at it, I've tried multiple cables etc.

When I plug the camera into the Mac (and select mass storage on the camera) all I get is a single folder called PM HOME that has a subfolfer in it called LICENCE that contains Aa bunch of .txt files.

I'd love to avoid having to manually remove the card and insert and return etc. but I'm out of energy trying to solve the problem with apple who blame Sony and vice versa.

On any PC I use any old cable and I usually have three folders showing, one of which contains stils and video.

Unfortunately I almost never use a PC to transfer my Sony media files to.

The other issue is attempting to transfer android device files to mac, it can be done but requires software which is never reliable, or the ability to upgrade ram, hard drive etc.
but they're topics for another post.

I would love Apple hardware that runs windows.
The hardware is fantastic.
