Wow, that seems like the biggest new feature and fix list I've seen for this body so far. Yeah, any brave souls who go for it, let us know how it goes. The new xl spot tracking sounds interesting... I've experienced the focus bracketing stopping short of infinity, so that could be a legit reason to upgrade as well. So much stuff here it almost makes me nervous like this might be the last fw update we'll see for this body for a long time, if ever... but that is probably just my paranoia showing, heh.

Whoever tries the new firmware: please let us know whether it introduces a warning message for 3rd party batteries that didn't previously result in a warning message. If there's a warning message, it will typically appear about 30 seconds after the camera is turned on.
now the battery has a percentage written inside the icon, instead of the classic segments + percentage.
also the screen informations now rotate when in portrait.
Now you can set a custom function to a button, just pressing the button you want to customize.
Maybe there are other hidden UI/function updates too... no, not Auto subject recognition yet.
Thanks for the heads up. I just installed it a short time ago, so far all appears to work fine.
I like the new XL-size spot. I too hoped for auto subject recognition, alas... nope.
There is a touch menu overlay if you swipe to the side that is a duplicate of the Fn menu. It tells you about it when the camera restarts after the update. At first I did not like this, but it is growing on me. What you have assigned to Fn will probably greatly affect whether you like this or not. e.g. I have AF recognition type on there and now it is simple to change with a swipe and tapping through the options. Swipe up should make the menu overlay go away, but I find this a bit buggy. Perhaps it is a conflict with something in my touch settings.
I have no 3rd party batteries and so cannot speak to any messages about that.
So far I haven't heard anything bad... getting tempted already. That didn't take long.
I have a casual event to shoot Sunday and am torn between that event being a good test bed for the new FW and of being afraid that something "else" could go wrong. Heh.
I used creator's app last FW update and have to admit it was a pretty positive experience. Maybe I'll wait until tomorrow and check the forums again...

Don't have one to try but I'd bet good money that you will get a message now. All my 3rd party batteries give messages in my A1II.

The AF small spot square is no longuer a square, but only the 4 corners..., so a bit less good to see...
And I'm very happy about this change, as I always found the bold white box too obtrusive, and the alternative red box, on the other hand, was difficult to see depending on the image. I think the current setup—white corners with a black border—is great. It's less distracting and clearly defined in both light and dark areas.
