Imo this is a really capable camera, once the film spacing issue is resolved. Haven't had time to contact Lomography yet because of work.. maybe I'll get to it on Friday or on the weekend. I'm still optimistic they'll fix it.
Regarding that camera on B&S: Unlikely that it doesn't have the film spacing issue. At this point I think all of the first batch cameras are affected..
In almost completely unrelated news, Lomography has posted a marketing position that requires some travel based out of their Brooklyn office.
For the grand salary of $45k/yr. Which is less than minimum wage in California.

I really think this camera has tremendous potential - just waiting for them to sort out the bugs.

AI Overview
Living in Brooklyn on $45k a year is extremely tight and requires significant budgeting, roommates, and limiting expenses
Thanks for the review. You put enough film through it to get a real experience of using the camera. The 90's P&S are at an age where they may work fine one day and be dead the next. With Lomo stepping in with an new camera to fill that spot, they'll probably sell a lot of them.
They noted that the film spacing and viewfinder alignment issues in particular have been addressed.
The company also offered to send me a mass-production camera. I’ll test it out and report back on whether the issues I describe below have been corrected or at least improved.
Looking forward to your confirmation whether this has been fixed.

Peter is reasonably positive about it, but there are several comments about overlapping and crooked frames, and film getting jammed. Lomo looks to be sending properly functioning cameras to reviewers, but the QC seems lacking in ones being sold, at least at this stage.
I'm heading to Japan in April and was hoping to purchase one to be my film camera but am quite undecided given the reports.
Spoke too soon. Peter loaned the camera to his friend Matti Sulanto and film spacing issues have started. Nick Lopresti was sent a second camera to review after Lomo saw his complaints about film spacing and the second one had spacing issues too. Amazing that my plastic Reto ultrawide can space frames properly but Lomo has issues with a $500 camera.

Hm not sure I buy this statement regarding QC issues affecting pre mass production cameras.
I bought mine through their normal website (pre-ordered in October, shipped in December) and it has the exact same issues. Did all the pre-orders get a "ahead of mass production" copy? I doubt that.
It seems much more likely to me that most or all of the first batch of MC-As is affected, including the mass production. This would also explain why replacement cameras sent to youtubers show the same behavior - they simply have few-to-none that work correctly.
I reached out to them today and asked for replacement or repair of my camera under statutory warranty. Let's see how they respond to that.
Edit: they already replied. I'll ship the camera back to them and I guess most likely they will replace it.
While there are issues with film transport and there are cameras that are easier to load, he's also just doing it incorrectly (wtf is he doing in that in the field film loading clip? ).
His b-roll that is supposed to show the film transport issues clearly shows that he did not properly load the film on the take-up spool. Looks like he didn't even try to properly engage it with the transport teeth either..
Also the viewfinder is not great, but it does *not* only show half the frame. That's just bs.
So some fair criticism in that video. But would be great if people posting reviews would actually know what they're doing..

I personally tend to agree with you. As a journalist I'm not paid to speculate, though. The proof will be in the second one they send me, I guess.

Yeah, I just fast forwarded it till about 5:10 to see the film loading issues. We have no idea what he is doing because he does not show the entire process, then he shows himself in the field holding the camera upside down while opening it and messing with the film.
Stopped watching after that.
I'm curious about Matti's claim that he has never seen a film camera with only one sprocket wheel. I'll need to check my cameras to see if they all have top and bottom sprockets. If the single sprocket wheel is the problem then there is a fundamental design problem, not an assembly issue.

It‘s not that uncommon in compact cameras, e.g Olympus XA.
Another example of him not doing any research and just claiming stuff..
