This 1-2 day detour that the volcano took brings us closer to the forecast heavy & constant rainfall, which would make the observation decidedly harder. When I was here in May I had to shoot thru 1.2 miles of a downpour and let's say that was less than ideal. Meanwhile:

I'm sure you've all had a photo trip planned that didn't go according to plan _at all_. When flying here, I was genuinely worried that I will miss the big event while still in the air, like in May. Still, I booked a week stay just to pad things, and hope to see other parts of the island. Turns out that my padding apparently wasn't enough and what I have seen the most is the parking lot at the park, because Episode 36 has been going like none before. The volcano spews a little bit, releases pressure, and then just sits back. Last night was the 2nd such release, which in itself is pretty, but always costs 1-2 days of reset. So while the inferno yesterday was lovely, it now brings me into the tough spot of rebooking my trip, which isn't cheap at this stage...
But hey, at least there's Nene.

I never quite understand these posts. Are the photos appropriate here because they were taken during the specified season? Or because they embody the season in some way or another?
This one was taken today. So it fits if the former. It doesn't fit if the latter. I suppose.
For some reason the EXIF was stripped.

The absurdity of the current eruption (or rather, how some hardcore people deal with it) is hard to fathom. Today is my 6th day in the parking lot, just because the volcano has departed from the one year long, consistent precedent. "The French Guy" has been parked in the same spot in his Altima next to me for 5 days now, without moving. I am not quite that hardcore. I'm not sure if this is just the sunk cost fallacy at this point, but I'm determined to catch it.
Last night I stayed until past 1am, when it became obvious that nothing will happen again. Rain and wind and then it cleared up. There was a very eclectic group of people and we had a lot of laughs at each other's expense. It was refreshing college humor.
Oh and the volcano did some spitting.

From my morning walk. There is a place about 2 KM from my place I am renting here. Good exercise for me, and for 5 bucks the owner puts out bananas and feeders for the hummingbirds. I'll sit up there for a while and chat with the professional birders bringing in the tourists.
